The Battle of Bloody Gulch took place around hill 30 southwest of Carentan France on June 13th 1944. The main fighting involved members of the German 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division and the 6th Fallshirmjager Regiment and the American 501st, 502nd, and 506th Parachute Infantry Regiments (PIR) of the 101st Airborne Division reinforced by elements of the U.S. 2nd Armored Division. The Germans siezed the manor house of the town of Manoir de Donville for use as their headquarters. The German forces attacked accross hill 30 toward the American lines. Just before reaching the American lines, the 2nd Armored column of Sherman tanks entered the battle and the German line crumbled and retreated.
