In June 1942, the Germans attacked the Crimean Peninsula led by Erich Von Manstein. The Soviet army defended "the gates of Sevastopol" Sapun Ridge. From their viewpoint on Sapun Ridge, the Soviets had an unobstructed view of the German army crossing the valley below. Elements of the German XXX Corps and the Romanian Mountain Corps fought elements of many different Soviet Rifle Corps and a T-26 armored division in reserve. In this battle the Soviet army suffered 2,500 casualities, and the German army suffered 2,659 casualities. In the end, the German XXX Corps took the heights and went on to Sevastopol. By that time the German navy had subdued the port and the Luftwaffe had bombed the city. Can you hold the heights of Sapun Ridge?
