Round 1 VIK02 Reading 871
John of York (Saxons)  3 banners, 33 blocks lost
Mark McG (Viking)  8 banners, 15 blocks lost

Vikings managed to quickly pull the Auxilliaries together into a wall and then deploy the Warriors and Bagsecg through the gates whilst the Saxons made their approach march, forming a long line.

The Saxon's launched a Boar's snout attack vs the Auxilliary shield wall, suffering both Fist Strike and then Ambush (which eliminated a Warrior and Aethelred), from that moment the initiative passed to Bagsecg and his warrior bands who charged into the ruptured Saxon line a wrought a terrible havoc with some very nice dice. Bagsecg essentially crushed the Saxon left and even eliminated Alfred on a double helmets roll. Saxons made a last ditch effort to salvage some pride, gathering a 3rd banner, but were swiftly finished off.

Round 6 VIK08 Rochester 885
Togan (Saxons) 3 banners, 22 blocks lost
Mark McG (Vikings) 6 banners, 18 blocks lost

Vikings rushed the town with a move -fire-move card to get up to the gates with the Auxilaries, but were pushed away. A desperate skirmish developed on the Right side of the town, whilst the left side snoozed. Banners went tit for tat up to 4-3, and then a decent Viking rally got a leader and warriors up the right gates, followed by a spectacularly poor Saxon counterattack Rally (3x MED & 3x XSW) that resulted in no effect. Vikings threw it all on killing the bowmen on the gate and so storming the gate, which worked and gave the win.

I feel a lot of players are struggling to make a 31 July deadline, and I don't think a mini tournament needs that kind of pressure. So I'm extending the deadline out to 31 August. I'm hoping that will give sufficient time to get the majority if not all of the matches played.

Round 7 Englefield
Saxons (Togan): 1 banner and 18 blocks lost (+1 ldr)
Vikings (SteveT): 4 banners and 8 blocks lost
Vikings gradually formed a line and then used two line advance cards to attack. A hail of Saxon arrows did little damage and in the melee the dice gods heavily favoured the Vikings. Adding insult to injury, Vikings finished the game by ambushing and killing Aethelwulf (on a double dice ldr check). Thanks to Togan for not complaining about the dice when he had every right to do so!
I forgot to begin a logfile so hopefuly Togan will upload his.

Round 2 Ashdown
Saxons (John of York): 2 banners with 18 blocks lost (+1 ldr lost)
Vikings (SteveT): 5 banners with 10 blocks lost
Bagsceg moved part of his host to the right and advanced with the right flank of his army towards the Saxon left. They were surprised by Aethelred, who with his housecarls had swiftly moved across the hills from his right, and charged into the exposed inner flank of the advancing Vikings. But Bagsceg slew Aethelred in single combat, and the housecarls, though they fought on without their leader, with Odin's help were defeated. Bagsceg gathered his host and charged forwards against Alfred's troops, gaining the victory.
Thanks to John for a good game - he played well but luck was not with him: Aethelred fell to a double helmet leader check at the initial clash and the dice throughout were very much against him!

Round 4  VIK05 Marton 871

Saxon Player (mk20336) - 6 banners won, 23 blocks lost
Viking Player (Stephent) - 3 banners won, 27 blocks lost

A pretty close game till the moment I decided on Foot Onslaught which killed full strength warrior with 4 dice and a leader. Till that moment it was balanced, then the spiral of of quickly gained points started culminating in Saxon victory. Thanks Stephent for the game!

Round 5  VIK07 Cynwit 878

Saxon Player (mk20336) - 6 banners won, 6 blocks lost
Viking Player (scipio1zama) - 1 banner won, 21 blocks lost

What a bloody and unforgiving scenario for Vikings. I had all cards I needed - Command Center, Order Medium, Inspire Any Section. It seems I never lacked moves and with average rolls (or sometimes even good ones) that was a devastating mix for invaders. Thanks to Mike for playing the game - despite the odds!

Round 2  VIK03 Ashdown 871
GregO (Saxons) 4 banners, 28 blocks lost
Mark McG (Vikings) 5 banners, 16 blocks lost

Something about Medieval, but I seem to get far more Name cards than section cards in Medieval. This game was no exception, and I had a good selection of cards.
Vikings had a lot of mobility, with a Double Time, two Foot Onslaught and 2 Leader any Section which could also be foot onslaughts.

The Saxons moved up slightly, onto the ridgeway, and from there it was pretty much full on. The Vikings moved from the Right up over the ridgeway to beat back Aethelred's flank, then when Alfred came up, they pushed harder, losing Bacsecg. Saxons pushed hard up the ridgeway, looking for a win, and fell just short. Vikings had a Clash of Shields that looked like a slam dunk, but after Halfdan took one banner and advanced, and Ambush killed his Heavy unit is reply, and for a heart stopping moment it looked like a leader loss might snatch defeat from victory, but the dice smiled and I managed to grab the final banner.

Gripping match

My first game with the Vikings rules was long, intense, interesting and swingy. Altogether a great experience. Alfred was crushed by the vicious Bagsecs and barely managed to fled the battlefield while on the other half of the battlefield it was almost flawless Saxon victory. Aethelred personally led the charge several times. Glorious day for the Saxons. As Mark commented - few section cards on my side while a whole bunch of Tactics - Double time, Foot onslaught, cry havoc, etc.
