Round 3 Game 1 – Amstetten, November 5 1805

Rand – Allies – 7 banners – 22 blocks lost (this includes 2 blocks rallied)
Maxjoezach – French – 4 banners + 1 Cossack unit - 33 blocks lost + One French Leader lost

A peppering of grapeshot by Russian artillery causes French causalities, though French Light infantry aggressively advance on the right flank. An early forced march by the French is countered by Austrian calvary charging forward to smash into the French lines, forcing a Grenadier unit into square. The French Light cut their way through the poorly defended Russian Left flank, the lack of a Mother Russia Roll limiting the units positioned there.
The Austrian calvary shifts its attack to a second Grenadier unit, who after refusing to join into square, nearly destroys two Light Calvary units in two separate battle backs. The French counter, finishing off one Light Calvary, but leaving one of their own calvary overextended, which is heavily damaged. The calvary of both sides continue skirmishing across the center section, leaving the French leading 4 banners to none. An Austrian Grenzer unit cuts down a full-strength French Grenadier unit in one volley, and from there the momentum of the battle changes hands. The French general is hampered by numerous Scout cards in his hand, combined with unlucky dice. In comparison, the Allied player again has the same Grenzer unit cut down a French unit in one volley, this time a Horse Artillery. The French attempt to rally with an ineffective artillery bombardment, but an Allied assault in the center destroys a French Grenadier, finishes off a Light Calvary and kills a French general during a leader check. With Russian reinforcements on the edge of the village of Amstetten, a final Fire and Hold command by the Allies causing massive damage all along the French line, with a Russian Artillery hitting on 3 dice to score the final banner on a 3 block French Grenadier.
The French end the game with three Scout cards, two held since the beginning of the game. Allies had decent cards all game, and halfway through the match, their dice luck was unworldly.

Thanks to Doug for the game.

Round 3 Game 2

Rand – French – 7 Banners – 16 blocks lost (includes one block rallied)
Maxjoezach – Allies – 1 Banner – 26 blocks lost + Leader of Honour Bagration flees from the field

The French start with a forced march on their right flank, moving three light infantry units and a French Foot Artillery towards the weakly held Allied left section. They are able to quickly overwhelm the Russian Light Infantry deployed in the wood line, destroying one and pushing the other back to the baseline with heavy casualties. The Russians attempt to maneuver units from their center to the endangered left section, with the Leader of Honour Bagration moving to join a Russian Line Infantry there. The French roll 4 infantry on an Elan card in combination with a Leader unit reform that brings a French Light up to full strength and cause slight damage to the Allies as they continue their aggressive march on the Allied Left. Bagration counters with a move along the baseline to try to turn back the French, but a fumbled attack leaves his unit open for a battle back which forces Bagration to flee the battlefield. The French play a second Elan card and are soon up 4 banners to zero with no Allied units left on their right flank. The Allies try to reposition, while the French gamble on a Leadership card, which moves the Russian reinforcement marker but allows 5 French leader led units to attack all across the front lines causing heavy damage and forcing a Russian Grenadier unit into square. The Austrian calvary then launch a charge into the French Left, but the French play Leader orders a Fall Back. A recon in force combined with a break the square catches a Russian Grenadier off guard, capturing a banner. The Austrians are able to then force three French units into square and destroy a French Light Calvary. A Grande Manoeuvre allows the French to push forward fresh infantry units and the next turn, a heavily damaged Russian Grenadier unit is finished off for the seventh banner.

My thanks to Doug for the two games and being a gentleman to play against. Look forward to playing him again. Best of luck to him in the rest of the tournament.

A even struggle throughout, with the French pushing hard against the Allied left flank whilst flailing in the face of an Allied assault focussed on the opposite flank. The French lost the race, though came close, holding back one or two Leadership card plays to the last moment but whiffing in two of four crucial combats. Allies delivered the coup-de-grace with a Bayonet Charge to take 2 banners and Victory.

After some early progress for Allied reinforcements, the French grasped an opportunity to strike out with Grenadiers against Allied skirmishers on their Left flank. However, whilst the Grenadiers forced a battered Grenzer unit back and snagged Prince Hohenlohe in the process , they themselves became embroiled by cavalry which, given the disposition of forces, gave the Allies an opening to dominate the flank; Lady Luck resisting the efforts of French cavalry to assist and a French leader also falling. Meanwhile, with the banner line at 4:2 to the Allies, the French threat to the Allied left flank had started to build when reinforcements arrived to award Victory to the Allies.

A good advance of the French on the right while the Austrian cavalry dominated the battlefield on the left. An initial French lead in medals is tied thanks to an Allied cavalry charge. The game is 6-6 but a nasty Infantry combat first card is fatal to the Allies looking for their last medal. I have to report troubles with the module during the game. Disappearing cards from the French hand and extra cards in the Allies hand. As usual, no clear where the bug is.

Game 1
Greg O (French) 7 Banners
Andras Kopcsik (Allies) 1 Banner1

The first action was an Allied GRZ stepping forward in the center and he was met my a LC,GR, and FA and eliminated. BOth sides formed lines in the left and center and the French moved in with an Elan, wounding an Allied HC and LC but the French LC was then cut off and surrounded buy three Allied units who threw 13 dice without a single hit. The battle raged, mostly on the left and left part of the center section for the remainder of the battle. The Allies had terrible luck and Mars favored France in this battle. Andras was a good sport during a one-sided affair, but he will have his vengeance one day soon I am certain, as he's a great player.

OK, I've updated the score table with the results I have as I understand them.
Please check, and if they aren't listed, I don't know about them!!

3 pairs are still outstanding and the deadline is tomorrow (30 Nov)

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

Jaboskov (Allies) 3 banners

After some initial maneuverings the French opened with an infantry assault on their right. This gained them two flags but was halted by a Russian cavalry counter attack. Both sides fell back to tend to their wounded. Fouconnet made a gallant but unsupported charge on the French left and was killed in action along with the cavalry he was leading for no real gain. Meanwhile the French infantry in the center was slowly advancing into position. An Austrian cavalry attack on the French left was brought to a crashing halt by devastating French artillery fire. At this point it was three flags a piece. Two back to back bayonet charges by the French grenadiers in the center proved to be unstoppable and gave the French victory.

Game 2
Jaboskov (French) 7 banners
MjrCatastrophe (Allies) 3 banners

Most of the action was on the Allies left and center-left. Lots of attacks and counterattacks eventually broke in favor of the French. The Allies responded with powerful cavalry attacks on the French left and center, forcing 3 squares and eliminating a few units. The French light moved left from the right flank to close out the game.

Grateful for fun games with a good person.

Note: had trouble with log for second game
