The known history of India begins with the Indus Valley Civilization, which spread and flourished in the north-western part of the Indian subcontinent, from c. 3300 to 1300 BCE. Its Mature Harappan period lasted from 2600-1900 BCE. This Bronze Age civilization collapsed at the beginning of the second millennium BCE and was followed by the Iron Age Vedic period, which extended over much of the Indo-Gangetic plains and which witnessed the rise of major kingdoms known as the Mahajanapadas. In one of these kingdoms Magadha, Mahavira and Gautama Buddha were born in the 6th century BCE, who propagated their Shramanic philosophies among the masses.

Later, successive empires and kingdoms ruled the region and enriched its culture - from the Achaemenid Persian empire around 543 BCE, to Alexander the Great in 326 BCE. The Indo-Greek Kingdom, founded by Demetrius of Bactria, included Gandhara and Punjab from 184 BCE; it reached its greatest extent under Menander, establishing the Greco-Buddhist period with advances in trade and culture.

The subcontinent was united under the Maurya Empire during the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE. It subsequently became fragmented, with various parts ruled by numerous Middle kingdoms for the next ten centuries.

This should work as needed.

I'm missing the original model files, so I swapped the images of Slingers and Bows.

Great. As the game only has 2 units of slingers in total, it is most likely an error to include this many slingers and too few bowmen. If you are able to edit the image, it would be good. So as to avoid confusion to anyone who are playing indians (myself).

Blocks breakdown (Eastern Kingdom / tan) is definitely in favour of Bow Units

Light Bow infantry (4 deployable units)

Light Sling infantry (2 deployable units)

If you think it's worth it, I can search through my original files and edit the image.

Slingers seem to be identical to bow infantry in terms of their stats. I think the author might have accidentally switched the two units, as historically indians did not have any abundance of slingers.

Is there something in the meta like bow infantry being too overpowered to be used in large numbers in a tournament game?

This is an original idea by Stephen Templeton from early 2008.
Indeed there is only one archer, but there are also 3 + 3 slingers.
I can see your point about archers as being the major component of the Classical Indian army but at least at the ranged fire level there is the possibility of deploying a fair number of units!
I don't know if this is enough...

I see that only one unit of Indian longbowmen is allowed in the army. Can anyone explain the reason behind this ?
From what I have read, archers were a major component of the Classical Indian army. In other wargame systems, archers form a major part of the army list.
