Round 6
EZPickens (British) 7 banners 39 blocks lost
Gonzo (Continental) 9 banners 34 blocks lost
Continental troops exposed in center able to fall back with losses to main line. British attack on left repusled with attrition on both sides. Continental holds ridge securely. British leaders jump on elite untis and charge. Able to kill some units but wore down and finally killed. A couple of unlucky rally rolls for mainly British ended game.
Thanks to John for good game.

Any plan for another Mini Tournament for the Holiday season, as this one is close to finalize ?

I was contemplating a Southern campaign tournament. Just trying to put a few tournaments to bed at the moment, but does the holiday season speed up or slow down match completion?

Semi-Final

Rfdoane (British) 3 Banners, 22 blocks lost

GonzoJ (Continentals) 9 Banners, 14 Blocks lost

Game played almost entirely on the British right. British immediately advance repeatedly and kill a Cont Reg with range fire. They followed with a Bayonet charge killing another Cont reg and a Militia. However, between those, the Cont played a sneak a march and brought the units on baseline into line just in time for a devastating Line Volley, killing a damaged Brit Reg and crippling the Ranger on the flank. The exposed Brit Gr took the flags and rallied back into friendly lines. Aggressive Cont push finished the Ranger and long range fire made the 2 Tory Provincial flee. 5-3 Cont after exchange (one for town). Brits regroup massive force on left/center, start exchanging range fire. Up to this point Cont had no Scouts, then drew and played 3 in a row. A German Lt took fire and saw the way the battle was headed and skedaddled.
Thanks to Rob for good game. I was sweating it at the beginning. British flank attack carried out with precision, but best laid plans...

Semi Final game 2

Gonzo (British) 9 banners 26 blocks lost

Rfdoane (Continental) 3 banners 28 blocks lost

Early range fire pushed L continental flank back. Rest of game fought on Cont right/British left. British pushed on far flank. Several Cont missed their rally rolls. British with 2 quick step cards closed. Pitched Battle in and around town buildings. Two Cont leaders went down with the town. Continentals got no scouts (though played a CA on one for the banner). Thanks to Rob for the match. Really nip and tuck in the battle for the town, Several critical rolls went the British way however.

Springfield 1780 Justin vs JR

JR (British) 9 banners, 34 blocks lost

Justin (Continentals) 8 banners, 32 blocks lost

Justin and I had a real barn-burner for the first half of our semi-final. As the British, I drove hard on the right, hoping to chop up the American Militia on my way toward an exit. However, Justin's scrubs had other ideas, laughing at rally rolls and mowing my troops down in droves. I had two nearly-full strength units flee the field on rolls of five dice or better - leaders, cards, nothing helped. By mid-game I had two lone leaders falling back in the face of an inexplicable Militia-led onslaught.

The debacle on the right led to an interesting game on the left. My Lights and Highlanders tried to break into town but were seen off by yet more appalling rally rolls. However, my artillery was deadly, steadily inflicting a couple hits every card play. The banner count was very close as I fought for bridges while Justin tried to exterminate my still-unitless leaders.

Down 8-7, I killed a Continental Regular and grabbed a bridge but was pushed off before I could score it. At this point Justin *finally* pulled a Scout card, but a brief rules dive revealed he couldn't use it to score his final banner. He failed to finish off any units on his half of the turn, and Knyphausen recaptured the bridge. This time he stood firm, and I squeaked out a very close 9-8 win. Fantastic game, great fun, and as God is my witness, I will never disrespect Militia again.

Springfield 1780 Justin vs JR

Justin (British) 9 banners, 11 blocks lost

JR (Continentals) 0 banners, 26 blocks lost

I take back all the nice things I said about Militia in my last report. In our second game, Justin absolutely smoked me. I had a nice opening, with a Line Command allowing Lee to lead his force into good defensive terrain. I also scored some sharp hits on some Lights and Provincials but both made their Rally rolls on a handful of dice. From there, it was all downhill for the cause.

Lee took a bullet on the first hit to his unit, kicking off the steady degradation of the Continental left. Barton never let up, leading a band of hardy Provincials all the way to the board edge. I inflicted some hits here and there but every Militia unit disappeared on its first retreat. Justin mercifully closed things out with a capture of a second bridge, for a well deserved victory and advancement to the finals.

Thanks again, Mark, for organizing - loved it!

JR, I recall being very impressed with Militia in a match as well. Sent some Highlanders packing with their sporrans shoved very far up..

on the other hand.. they also dissolved an entire flank..
