Congrats Joe, and it really seems like this one was a long haul!
Overall it took just over 7 months, but then I noticed it was 3 months to get to the Finals.

Brits seem pretty favoured in this one. I've played it once and the Brits won 5-2. Perhaps not the ideal scenario choice for a final, but hard to know with limited plays.

Thanks to all the players, good to finally get Tricorne on the virtual table!

Nailbiter for sure. When my full strength regular unit failed the rally check, I knew it was going to be incredibly difficult to take no other losses while assaulting the hill. Came close but Joe was the better general this time around. Congrats again!

Final Game 2
White Plains

gotigerssc (British) 5 banners 11 blocks lost
Gonzo (Continental) 2 banners 22 blocks lost
Match:  Gonzo 7-6 bannrs 34 to 33 blocks lost
British drive straight up middle, never playing another card for any other sector.  Continentals have NO center cards for the first 4 turns, except Inspired Leader Right, played to move one unit back into position.  Now British assault hill without taking any fire from it.  US Left units moved up to support with some flanking fire.  Initial British Assault decimates US line, already weakened by range fire.  Battle back however double flags a Brit unit and 4 pt reg misses rally.  Other Reg down to 1 block from following US turn.  Brit retreats him and advance next line and shatters US position in 2 turns of fighting.  Down 3-1 with crippled units facing full str Brits, a Brit light has to retreat, openning a path to the 1 pt Brit unit.  A counterattck on a Leader center allowed a 1 pt reg and leader to attack to get the second medal for the match.  Next round the Brit stopped at getting 2 more medals as more were to be had at will.
Brit command cards by order played:  Dress Ranks, Advance Cntr, Line Command, Line Command, Inspired Leader Ctr, Inspired leader, Bauonet Charge                                               Combat cards:  Rally Check Bonus, Reform, Return Fire, Training, Infantry Range Bonus, (Bayonet Charge)

Cont command cards played:  Insp Leader right, Probe Left, Adv Left Forward, Quick Step, Caounterattack                                                                                                                                                         Combat Cards:    Reform, Hold the Line
Thanks to Justin for a great match, settled by 1 medal

you should try Jacobite Rising. They start out of range, move 3 hexes and are at your doorstep before you can shoulder the musket..
the only good news is that if you can stand the initial rush, they tend to flee as quickly

Final White Plains Game 1
Gonzo (British) 5 banners 12 blocks lost
gotigessc (Continental) 1 banner 22 blocks lost

British Steal a March put multiple units into the face of militia/regulars on Continental left who feel back but lost 2 units in the pusuit.  British slowly closed in center, exchanged some fire, then Quick stepped and broke the hill defense, rolling it up.  A Continental Bayonet charge bagged a crippled Gren and almost got another.   Final Brit Baynot charge bagged last Regular for the win.  Game played in two sittings, quite far apart due to rules question.  Log below of second part, Justin to post first.  Tough battle for the Continentals as Brits had several big manuever cards.  We'll see how the return game goes.  Thanks Justin

Parts of the site weren't turned on initially, so the Personal Messaging only switched on last week, and I think the forum attachments were added at the same time. So please add logfiles from now on, and retrospectively if you have the inclination. If you go back to your old posts, you can Edit the post and add an attachment.

I'll try and get mine done this week.

I love 'em, whatever my occasional grumblings. Crap troops are my favorite to play in any system - Axis minors in WWII, peasant levies in medieval battles, or gentlemen farmers from eastern Pennsylvania here in Tricorne. The risk of a rally roll makes Tricorne stand out in the C&C series, and that added tension might make it my favorite of the bunch.

So the final is Joe vs Justin
Scenario is K01 White Plains (28 October 1776)
This was a Kickstarter scenario, so unavailable on the fan site, but on the VASSAL module.

Springfield 1780 Justin vs JR

Justin (British) 9 banners, 11 blocks lost

JR (Continentals) 0 banners, 26 blocks lost

I take back all the nice things I said about Militia in my last report. In our second game, Justin absolutely smoked me. I had a nice opening, with a Line Command allowing Lee to lead his force into good defensive terrain. I also scored some sharp hits on some Lights and Provincials but both made their Rally rolls on a handful of dice. From there, it was all downhill for the cause.

Lee took a bullet on the first hit to his unit, kicking off the steady degradation of the Continental left. Barton never let up, leading a band of hardy Provincials all the way to the board edge. I inflicted some hits here and there but every Militia unit disappeared on its first retreat. Justin mercifully closed things out with a capture of a second bridge, for a well deserved victory and advancement to the finals.

Thanks again, Mark, for organizing - loved it!

Springfield 1780 Justin vs JR

JR (British) 9 banners, 34 blocks lost

Justin (Continentals) 8 banners, 32 blocks lost

Justin and I had a real barn-burner for the first half of our semi-final. As the British, I drove hard on the right, hoping to chop up the American Militia on my way toward an exit. However, Justin's scrubs had other ideas, laughing at rally rolls and mowing my troops down in droves. I had two nearly-full strength units flee the field on rolls of five dice or better - leaders, cards, nothing helped. By mid-game I had two lone leaders falling back in the face of an inexplicable Militia-led onslaught.

The debacle on the right led to an interesting game on the left. My Lights and Highlanders tried to break into town but were seen off by yet more appalling rally rolls. However, my artillery was deadly, steadily inflicting a couple hits every card play. The banner count was very close as I fought for bridges while Justin tried to exterminate my still-unitless leaders.

Down 8-7, I killed a Continental Regular and grabbed a bridge but was pushed off before I could score it. At this point Justin *finally* pulled a Scout card, but a brief rules dive revealed he couldn't use it to score his final banner. He failed to finish off any units on his half of the turn, and Knyphausen recaptured the bridge. This time he stood firm, and I squeaked out a very close 9-8 win. Fantastic game, great fun, and as God is my witness, I will never disrespect Militia again.

Semi Final game 2

Gonzo (British) 9 banners 26 blocks lost

Rfdoane (Continental) 3 banners 28 blocks lost

Early range fire pushed L continental flank back. Rest of game fought on Cont right/British left. British pushed on far flank. Several Cont missed their rally rolls. British with 2 quick step cards closed. Pitched Battle in and around town buildings. Two Cont leaders went down with the town. Continentals got no scouts (though played a CA on one for the banner). Thanks to Rob for the match. Really nip and tuck in the battle for the town, Several critical rolls went the British way however.

Semi-Final

Rfdoane (British) 3 Banners, 22 blocks lost

GonzoJ (Continentals) 9 Banners, 14 Blocks lost

Game played almost entirely on the British right. British immediately advance repeatedly and kill a Cont Reg with range fire. They followed with a Bayonet charge killing another Cont reg and a Militia. However, between those, the Cont played a sneak a march and brought the units on baseline into line just in time for a devastating Line Volley, killing a damaged Brit Reg and crippling the Ranger on the flank. The exposed Brit Gr took the flags and rallied back into friendly lines. Aggressive Cont push finished the Ranger and long range fire made the 2 Tory Provincial flee. 5-3 Cont after exchange (one for town). Brits regroup massive force on left/center, start exchanging range fire. Up to this point Cont had no Scouts, then drew and played 3 in a row. A German Lt took fire and saw the way the battle was headed and skedaddled.
Thanks to Rob for good game. I was sweating it at the beginning. British flank attack carried out with precision, but best laid plans...

Round 6
EZPickens (British) 7 banners 39 blocks lost
Gonzo (Continental) 9 banners 34 blocks lost
Continental troops exposed in center able to fall back with losses to main line. British attack on left repusled with attrition on both sides. Continental holds ridge securely. British leaders jump on elite untis and charge. Able to kill some units but wore down and finally killed. A couple of unlucky rally rolls for mainly British ended game.
Thanks to John for good game.

Germantown (MM01)

Renaud (British): 5 VP, 8 blocks lost
Jim D (Continentals): 1 VP, 20 blocks lost

With their opening fire, the Continentals did limited damage to my forward Light unit. Rather than pulling them and my Regulars to safer terrain, I took advantage of two Ranged Combat cards to attack with them, and that netted two VPs for the Crown. They eventually moved back, harried by the Continentals, and the Lights were eliminated, but the Regulars took and never released possession of Chew Mansion, despite repeated attacks. The relief force of two units of Regulars (one under Cornwallis) and one of Grenadier pushed back the Continentals with one more loss. But the Rebels came back again, with Greene’s militia joining the action. Unfortunately for them, the British delivered a blistering volley and set one unit of Militia to flight, delivering the 5th and last VP.

so by my calculations, even scoring full points for forfeit, the British semi-finalists are JR and Justin.
There is one significant match between Joe and John to determine the semi-finalists amongst the Continentals.

Round 2 - Battle of Brandywine (British Flank Attack) (103)

Renaud (British) 7 VPs, 14 blocks lost
Charles (Continentals), 4 VPs, 29 blocks lost

Somehow my entry of the game doesn’t appear to have saved. It’s been a while, so I’m now short on the story details... The Continentals fought bravely, but the Crown overcame!
