It's my turn to play the French and I started by engaging the Austrian infantry in the closest part of the town, only to lose a Line infantry to the enemy muskets. The score's immediately 0:1 against me.
Lots of manoeuvring followed - allowing the Austrians to occupy the rest of the town - before I was able to attack on the right. The Light cavalry put an Austria Line infantry into square so that the infantry muskets could eliminate it - and take General Mayor with it - that's 2:1.
The Austrians reinforced their left, my cavalry getting out of the way. A "Force March" let me attack the town in more force, removing the furthest forward Austrian Line for 3:1. Evert's "Counter attack" card backfired when the Militia unit that was part of his attack fell to the return fire (okay, I got lucky with the dice). The score's now 4:1.
However, my next attack ran into the same problem, Austrian defenders right of centre eliminated the Light infantry attacking them. With my victory banner for the town arriving, the score's 5:2. And my Light cavalry snuck into another part of the town.
Evert pushed the cavalry back out of town, but I then moved them behind the Austrian lines to finish off a badly damaged Line infantry. That's 6:2 and the game.
That was only 17 turns (though one more than our previous game) and another win for the French. However, the aggregate score is 10:8 to me. And you'll notice that in neither game was the Austrian player able to play a "Scout" card to put the French under pressure.I’ve also posted this report (with pictures!) on my BGG blog:
