As well as owning C&C Napoleonics I have the starter set for Warlords miniature naval combat game called Master and Commander Black Seas. I then had the crazy idea of combining the two games and playing a campaign.
I decided to set the campaign in the Caribbean on and around an imaginary large island called St Sanchez. The island being Spanish owned and garrisoned by Spanish troops. The island is of strategic importance economically and militarily as it is close to trade routes and other British interests.
The French planned an invasion of the island which would give them a base to intercept trade ships and launch attacks on other islands. So they secretly embarked an army on troop carrying ships which set off with escort vessels for the Caribbean.
The first the British knew of this was when three Royal Navy Brigs were on patrol north of St Sanchez and ran into the lead ships of the French escort. In the ensuing battle the Royal Navy captured a French Brig but lost one of their own when the vessel caught fire and then sank. The French inflicated one lost ship and 24 damage points on the British who inflicted one lost vessel and 25 points of damage on the French. This very marginal British victory allowed the Royal Navy Brigs to report their findings.
Immediately a Frigate and three Brigs, which were all that was available were sent to intercept the French fleet. They found the French just as St Sanchez hove into view over the horizon. The ensuing battle saw the French troop ship damaged but the French Frigates and brigs drove off the Royal Navy who had one of their Brigs captured.
The French landed all their troops a a harbour on the north of the island. The landing was unopposed. The French will now move inland to seek out the Spanish army.
The naval battles were fought using the miniatures and rules from the Dark Seas game.
The Land battles will be fought using the command and colors game. The battles being selected from the Spanish army scenario book.
The island of St Sanchez is divided into three segments. To Win the French must push the Spanish back through the three segments. The Spanish must stop this.
If the French win a battle the the Spanish retreat a segment and must be re supplied by sea (another naval battle) if the supplies get through another battle is fought. If not the Spanish must retreat another segment. The same rules apply to the French who will have to re supply if they lose a battle.
The winner is the army that pushes the other off the island and into the sea. The French must win the first battle to gain a foot hold on the island.
if the French win the campaign there is a possibility the British may attempt their own invasion to drive the French out.
I am keeping a war diary and will update how the campaign is going from time to time.
really enjoyed the first two naval engagements, now on the the Command and colours side,
