Game 1
French (Greg O) - 6 Banners
Allies (scipio1gama) - 4 Banner

Game 2
French (scipio1gama) - 6 Banner
Allies (mantra) - 5 Banners

Two tough fought battles, both saw the French cavalry us a break the square to take control of the left. Sharp clashes on the right, but in both battles the center was the deciding factor.

For the record I have to admit Stan was playing confidently throughout the whole game during our 2 match. He indeed out-smarted and outmanoeuvred me in every aspect, no wonder he was supported by lucky dice. My indecisive Allied counter-attack and the many positioning errors slowly but inevitably lead to a convincing and well deserved Blue victory. Hail to the Victor!

Wow. What a baptism of (competitive) fire for me. Two really fun battles between Kandras and myself.

Game #1:
Stanislav27 (British): 3
Kandras78 (French): 6

Spectacular and bloody battle. The French army took the initiative and pushed hard on both flanks. The British proved capable tacticians on their right side and withstood the ferocious cavalry charge. On the French right, vicious fighting took place over Piedralonge with one British Light Infantry regiment holding out for a large number of turns. Still, eventually, the French were victorious on their right section and continued a methodical roll-up of the British position on the crest from the right and the centre-right. Clever use of La Grande Maneuvre brought the French artillery into the close-range fray and the British were battered into submission.

Very well-fought battle with Kandras giving me a mastercalss in the value of a methodical, deliberate and supported assault (with just enough action in other sections so as to keep me busy and on the back foot throughout the confrontation).

Game #2:
Kandras78 (British): 2
Stanislav27 (French): 6

Contrary to the first battle, the second bout was initiated in the centre rather than on the flanks. The French sought to make the most out of high-maneuverability cards with which to claim the central hill formation. However, the British countered calmly and efficiently, bringing the Guard Grenadiers to the front with a sneaky "Call Forward Reserves" early on. The French claimed two victory banners (including beating the British Guard Grenadiers in a single, ferocious Combined Arms assault), but were beaten back. A lull ensued and the French pulled back from their ill-advised and unsupported central charge. Instead, they committed troops on both flanks and expanded the field of engagement. Piedralonge was claimed and the British right severely weakened. Subsequently, the French dragoons charged forward, forcing the British riflemen into square (but their Breaking the Square was somewhat of a disappointment) and audaciously charging the British artillery battery across the stream. Eventually, the artillery unit was destroyed and the French troopers charged the Light Cavalry on the edge of the battlefield. The British general tried to trap the French cavalry but was unsuccessful (although the riflemen scored a remarkable long-range kill on the second cavalry unit). The British cavalry was routed off the battlefield and the French scored the final banner on their right, dispatching the last remaining British unit in that sector.

---

Thanks a million to Andras for two exciting battles that were great fun as well as a great learning experience for me personally. In the second battle, I really felt that I had useful cards during most of the battle and my units were (dice roll) resilient when they most needed to be. That proved decisive (I thought I'd be clobbered after I bungled my early central attack). It was tight and exciting (as the margin clearly shows) and even though we had a few Java/Vassal hiccups, Andras was a terrific opponent throughout.

The Java problem resulted in my missing the final two thirds of the second battle in my logfile. So I have uploaded the save game file instead.

Confirmed. Yes, the Fire and Hold (Giulio actually had both of them), and the Bombard ravaged me, and my shots hardly hit anything.
Forgot to reshuffle after playing Elan.

Game 1

Zamba Bone (British): 2
Giulio (French): 6

We played with the old deck and without Tactician cards. The British infantry tried to conquer the towns in the center while the French cavalry was ravaging their colleagues on the right. Once the French cavalry finished its slaughtering job, the French artillery took its place with a bombard and a fire and hold, that crippled the most advanced British units. A firefight followed on the hills in the center section. The British fought bravely, but the French units were simply too many.

Just to confirm the report by Zamba Bone.

Game 1

Giulio (British): 6
Zamba Bone (French): 4

We played with the old deck and without Tactician cards. The initial French attack in the center was repelled by a British GTtCS. Then a masterfully executed attack by the French heavy cavalry created many troubles for the British on their right flank and earned three VP. A series of attack and counter-attack in the center tied the score 4-4. In the end, the British won thanks to a lucky roll that, for the second time in the game, eliminated a French leader. I realized I need to refresh a bit my knowledge of the rules. Zamba Bone played very competently and probably deserved to win. Dice did not agree.

Center quiet all game. On French left, British crossing river, incl Rifles, caught and squared by French HC and eventually picked off never coming out. Cav duel on that flank was a comedy of errors with miss after miss, but finally 1 pt Br LC takes cover successfully. Big action on French right as 4 French units force far right with two FM and an assault and 2 survive the game, chewing up British inf that are fed in. British dice atrocious in early game, Thanks for Tony for good game, final game in two weeks.

Game 2
Mark McG (Brits): 6
RiverWanderer (French): 5

Brits played the skulking game, and picked up a few early banners, including both French HC. British LC shot down to French Bombard as he attempted to escape over hill. French Left was ongoing disaster for both sides, French losing 2 HC, 2 LN + Ldr and the Brits 1 LC, 1 LN (who failed utterly) and 1 LT who failed to get 1 hit on a 1 block ART, and was knocked out with 3 INF out of 3.

Action switched to the centre, with French getting 3 ART out of 3d for an ART kill, and picked off a 1 block RF in the woods on 1d. Brit GG then came up and finished it.

French (ezpickins) - 2 Banners
Allies (toganalper) - 6 Banner

Game 2
French (toganalper) - 6 Banner
Allies (ezpıckins) - 2 Banners

Both games see no action at all ın the french left section. In the first game the Brıtısh moved very quickly to the front using several Tactics cards and Grand Man. The action resolved mostly at the center, then the Allies charged from their left sectıon and crossing the river attacked the french from their right. Calling the GG forward to the action at the boundary of the center and the rıght sectıon helped the Allies to secure the victory. In the second game the French this time pushed from the center and their right flank. The artillery were very sharp and the french were very eager to melee. They decided to attack the allied artillery, which was repositioned at the center on the hill. An uncalled for luck was for the french side. They were hitting very well. The french attacked the allies on the central hills and were able to destroy first the art and then the whole group. The allies were demoralized due to the early loss of their leader during artillery fire together with his unit.

Thanks to John for being such a nice gentlemen, when his dice were really killing him.

Re Cold Steel... I find this one of the hardest cards to get value out of. In my game, I ended up playing it to give one last hurrah to a single block infantry unit against a two block infantry.

Thanks, Chris. It was interesting to watch the tactics unfold. One more block would have given me another victory point as French, and I only wish I would have had a Bayonet Charge or another forced March; I probably could have smashed through the left side of your center line and then turned and eliminated the left flank. Oh well. I was holding Give Them Cold Steel, but could not get my troops into proper position at the start of a turn to use it. Usually you rolled flags and pushed me back. Good job, though. It was fun for my first tournament game.

Game 1
RiverWanderer/Mark (British): 6
Mark McG (French): 4

The game soon developed into a full-scale French infantry assault up the Centre/French Right. The British managed to hold the line, reducing several of the French attacking units to 1 or 2 blocks but as the dust settled, game banners were 4:1 to the French. British re-inforcements from the centre then made a counter-attack, essentially amounting to one light infantry unit that could reach the weakened French right. At this point, lady lucky intervened, as a French cavalry charge on the British artillery was repulsed against the odds and the British Light unit wiped out the one nearby full-strength French Line that could have held them off. The final banner fell to the British as the same Light unit mopped up one of the single block French.

An interesting encounter, with the British under pressure very early on and the French constantly cycling weakened units out of the front line whilst trying to keep up that pressure. We both struggled with "the wrong cards" but, curiously, we both got to play three identical key tactician cards during the game to support the infantry battle.

Due to disconnects, I had to stitch the attached log file together from several interrupted log files, so bear this in mind if you replay it.

Game 2 - to follow

Game 1
French (mantra/Chris) - 6 Banners
Allies (CaptTonio) - 1 Banner

Game 2
French (CaptTonio) - 1 Banner
Allies (mantra) - 6 Banners

Game 1 started with a lot of mixed action on both flanks, punctuated with artillery blasts from the center. Slowly the French built up their center cards (had both Bayonet Charges) and double waved the Brit center and heights avoiding most of their deadly ranged fire.

Game 2 saw a lot of action on the French right to start. They were getting some traction there before the push petered out. I though if they pushed a little more there they could have done some major damage, as the Brits didn't have many good cards to counter at that point. The French then switched to the center push, but were ground down and repulsed multiple times. We had some 'vassal issues' as well that game. All in all both games were fun to play. Looking forward to the rest. Thanks Anton.

Thanks for those clarifications Bangla - I've been wanting to play more Napo since it is the least played of all my C&C games.

I knew I would make many mistakes like this and unfortunately we didn't catch some of those. The more I play this the more I like it so I should eventually get it all down like the other C&C games.

Thanks for posting the files. I watched most of the first one and it brought back distant memories of trying with the French in this one and getting messed up badly too.

I did notice a few small errors in the play. I think you should both be referring to your terrain charts whenever terrain and/or square is involved:

1. HC attacking the LN square downhill has no dice. Neither does the square against the HC. Thus, after surviving the first attack, the LN should have stayed put so it could form square again and be unharmed.
2. Same for the HC attacking the GG in square in the river. Both have 0 dice.
3. The LC must stop when it reaches the stream. It can't carry on through in on the same turn.
4. You can't come out of square AFTER combat has been initiated somewhere. It must happen during the movement phase, which precedes all combat.

Playing some of the other more experienced players in later rounds will definitely help with small things like this, and things will come back to you both quickly. But I still advise keeping those terrain charts handy until you know them by heart.

I believe we are to report games on this thread? I apologize if this is the incorrect place...

Game 1
French (Cavie/Dan) - 2 Banners
Allies (Twan) - 6 Banners

Game 2
French (Twan) - 4 Banners
Allies (Cavie/Dan) - 6 Banners

The ranged mastery of the British was the deciding factor in both games. Some very accurate shooting took our many of the French units in Game 1 while in Game 2 it eliminated two leaders on two separate 2d leader checks.

On a side note, as I play this game more (the reason I wanted to get in this tourney) I'm appreciating the different route to strategies from the other C&C games. Twan was an exceptional opponent providing a good battle while being patient with my mistakes as I continue getting down the different units and their battle dice.
