Gonzo (Army) 6 Banners

TTK (Army2) 1 Banners

Slaves immediately attack with Cav and Aux on R. Good luck kills Lt and Med CAv on first turn, then evades as legionaires advance. 2 War and 2 Med Inf with leader charge into gap and do major damage and take little. More center cards for Slaves and a leader kill finished it

Gonzo 2 (Army) 6 Banners

TTK (Army2) 2 Banners
Slaves Med Cav attack repeatedly on right flank, but without the luck Gonzo had first game. Repulsed, then killed, with leader lost. Romans roll up that flank while Slave charge on left/center does damage but too late to offset Roman left flanks' success.

Thanks to TTK for bearing with the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune".

Yes... really blood fest

Gonzo both times gave my guys a real thrashing (mass beating).
It was painful to overcome, but thank heaven both games ended.

Gonzo, thanks for the games, good luck in the tournament. And now I have to score points in R4 and R5

Focus was on his left flank and it ended up working thanks to a single roll that eliminated a full strength cav and then a leader check that claimed his leader on that side. On a bonus melee I was able to take out a weakened to aux to make it 4-1. Then brought my line forward to get leader supported warriors into action to wrap up the win. I had tremendous luck both ways on the dice.

Game 2 was more of the same favorable dice rolls for me. My left flank all but collapsed under pressure with a lone light infantry unit remaining. Toward the end of the match I was able to advance my leader supported medium units up but (did I mention my good dice rolls) only one of them - medium with leader - ended up battling as it claimed the last two banners I needed for the win. One of the units it claimed was a full strength warrior. Aside from that drive I was opportunistic throughout.

Lou was a good sport about the angry dice gods and I hope they favor him in the next round.

Kartigan (Romans) 6 Banners

Bangla (Slaves) 1 Banners

This game had a very slow start that led to an extremely climactic finish.  A lot of early ranged fire resulted in some light block loss on both sides, as the Romans pushed steadily forward.  Eventually, Athenion led an attack on the Roman left that led to an exchange of banners, and then a Double Time by Salvius up the middle was performed.  The Romans got lucky with a Rally though that recovered much of what they'd lost and allowed them to push back and rack up several banners, making the score 5-1.  Salvius and Athenion pulled back, while the Romans pursued.  A good counterattack by Salvius was setup that had good potential for scoring another banner or two, but unlucky Flags allowed the Romans to slip away and score their last VP the next turn.

This game was a tale of Roman good fortune in cards (having a hand size of 6 helps immensely), as they played 3 Line Commands over the course of the game and a Order Medium Troops.  The Slaves dice did not do them any favors either.  The game was still enjoyable, thanks to Tony being a very good sport and an affable opponent.  The logs are split because there was a disconnect on my end that made for a break part way through.

Round 3: 205 Scirthaea

Game 1
ACrespi (Slaves) 6 - BrentS (Rome) 4

Game 2
ACrespi (Rome) 1 - BrentS (Slaves) 6

Two really fun games. A good 6 to 4 Command asymmetric scenario with a great opponent. Some wild dice, too.

Game 1

The Slaves started with a Line Command. The Romans made some good early going with ranged attacks stripping blocks off warriors but the dice failed them in close combat and couldn’t quite get the kills. Lots of 1 block Slave units that couldn’t quite be pinned down and killed. They paid the price as the Slaves took the last banner with a Double Time and leader kill.

Game 2

A quickie. The Slaves also started this one with a Line Command, which let them set up good defensive clusters. Athenion’s cavalry advanced and killed a pinned Roman light and the Roman cavalry. This time the Slaves were favoured by the dice with a couple of double colour dead eye shots. They advanced on their left to kill a couple of Roman foot units and the Roman advanced on their own left and the Slaves there responded with a two unit kill for a lopsided result. Excellent cards and dice for the Slaves in this one and despite the Command differential I still had a handful of gold that I never got to play (Double Time, Order Blue, First Strike)…an embarrassment of riches that skewed the result.

Thanks for some fun, exciting games, Alessandro.

Brent.

Slaves showed no fear and pushed deep into the centre of the field. Several rounds of close combat ensured, leaving many Roman units down to 1 or 2 blocks but none were eliminated, whereas by now 4 Slave units had fallen. The final denouement came when the Roman left pushed forward with successful attacks against unsupported Slave Medium Cavalry and weakened Warrior units.

Slaves developed a strong formation against the Roman right but meanwhile had presented the Romans with good attack opportunities on the other side, which they soon took advantage of to get ahead 2:1, the Slaves lucky to extricate a depleted Auxiliary unit that could have been a third banner. A strong attack from the Roman right then pushed the Slave formation back at a cost of 2 banners each; it might have been worse for the Slaves but for the balance of dice luck. Even so, the Romans had now gained the better position. 4:3, with the Romans poised to take another banner.

The Slaves decided to gamble on closing the banner gap with a desperate Mounted Charge. It succeeded beyond hope, a final leader-check fail robbing the Romans of victory.

Thanks to rjorge for two good games and good humour in the face of some unlucky dice rolls.

Game 1
Togan (Slaves) 4 - Michal (Rome) 6
The Slaves had really good cards to start the game (2xLine Command) and pretty decent rolls. My forces were pretty mauled before finally they started to battle back. That was exciting game with the tide turning in second part towards Rome.

Game 2
Togan (Rome) 4 - Michal (Slaves) 6
Completely different game. As Slaves I had good cards to reorganize my troops and always position leader behind the Auxilia Shield Wall. Some luck (evades especially) helped and in the long turn Rome was defeated.

Sincere thanks to Togan for flexibility in organizing that games despite him traveling.
