Current record is 3/7 Allemanni/Roman, but I bet this one comes out more evenly. The Alemanni MCs can be a difference maker with their bonus combat.

In MT51 (2014), this scenario was played by 6 different pairs, and there were 6 Roman wins ranging from 6-0 to 6-5 (three 6-5, two 6-4 and a 6-0 Roman win)

Bucking the trend in the statistics above and the commentary below, we have seen two Alemanni wins at 6-5 and 6-1. In the first game, at 5-4 to the Alemanni, the Roman player risked all in a charge foreword which managed to eliminate the required two units: had it failed, they would have lost in the next Alemanni card play. The second game hinged on an Alemanni cavalry charge combined with a weak Roman hand. This game is good.

Played this game twice today. I was the Alemanni first and got the usual drubbing, 6-2, although I made it interesting until my dice went cold. He had 3 units at 1 hit point when I was done. Then we switched sides.

I led off with a line command that got my entire force up into missile range and scored a couple of hits around his leaders. He responded with a Move Lights and screened the leaders with Aux and Light units. I did a Move-Fire-Move and scored some hits on his lights.

He responded with another Move Lights, moved a few units and scored a couple of hits with missile fire. I did a Move 3 units right and started grinding down on his Lights.

Then he did a Line Command with a bunch of Aux, Lights, and Archers. He ripped up some of my units but paid a price. I played a Counterattack and moved my entire line forward, trapping the center of his Lights against his Cav, killing a bunch of them at a smallish cost to myself.

The score now was 4-1, my middle was a bit beaten up but I was in generally good shape with another Line Command waiting to be played against his Cav in the center.

That's when he played the Mounted Charge card and assaulted my center. The vicious struggle that followed vaporized my middle and killed 4 of my units in exchange for 1 of his, score is now 5-5 with his Cav badly beaten up and me still having enough units to predictably kill one of his Cav.

He's looking for a way out of the box he put himself in and realizes that he moved one Medium Cav on his right flank against my Aux on the left side, it had taken one hit from his earlier missile fire. Saying "Here goes everything", he rolled 4 dice, scoring 3 hits, and winning the game.

:) I did have two possibilities for the last flag, but neither very likely - a 4 die attack on a supported 4-block Medium Infantry. Not much hope, but either 4 hits or 2 flags would have probably done it. (don't tell me the odds. OK - 1.23% and ~2% resp).

Assuming I managed to survive any battle-back, I still held a first strike for the Roman turn, could have resulted in a kill or possibly a path to retreat. again - don't tell me the odds.
