Thanks for setting this up, Mark.
I'm very excited for others try out some of these scenarios and I'd really love to get feedback. I'll say up front that they're not all intended to be balanced but it's a case of how well you do with what you've got…..perfect for a mini-tournament format and why I like the format so much. You've all surely noticed by now that Samurai Battles is a lot less predictable and much more swingy than some of its C&C cousins and I gave up trying to get things perfect in terms of balance. The historical victor will be favoured in all cases but there's nothing to stop the historical loser getting a good banner result or pulling off a win.
I've discussed a dozen or so options for scenarios with Mark and will finalise the seven we want to use shortly. I'm just going to reword a few of the rules for clarification at Mark's suggestion. I have logfiles ready for all of them. To keep things simple, these will be scenarios that only introduce a couple of the new rules……..sohei and Palisades (which are equivalent in all respects to Ramparts in Ancients except that there is an option to attempt to destroy them).
I'm not planning on playing in this tournament for a couple of reasons. One is that I'm going away for a large chunk of October (Japan!
). The other is that I probably have some small advantage in these scenarios having dry run them a number of times and knowing what tactical opportunities I think I've designed into them (although any advantage may be offset by my play mistakes
). I'd also like to get a bit of distance from them and see how other people experience them with my hands off the wheel.
Brent.
