Round 5, European Draw
Javelinthrower (RED) 4 banners won, 6 blocks lost
Gileforn (BLUE) 1 banners won, 19 blocks lost or 23 if counting the Turncoat card effects
It was a bad day for the Takeda forces.
Caught in a trap, the infantry leader with a Spearmen unit timely retreated with minimal losses. Realising that storming the ravine head-on would be nigh-impossible, the general Gileforn decided to opt for a slim chance of flanking after breaking through a poorly defended forest housing an Arquebus unit inside. But the attacking Ashigaru Yari unit soon saw that thick groves prove to be a better defence than expected and had to retreat. The retaliatory fire volley from the gunmen halved the fighting force of the Samurai Bowmen Cavalry, and after a second desperate attack from the Yari failed, the Honor also did, forcing the Cavalry to ran away and hide and the Spearmen to retreat, both losing soldiers to desertion rather than bullets.
Seeing an opportunity present itself, a dishonorable band of Samurai Spearmen cavalry changed colors and turned coat, attacking the defenceless infantry leader and taking his head to be turned in for possible Tokugawa reward. The nearby forces, though shocked, instantly retaliated, but suffered great losses due to Samurai's superior training, stature and armor&weapons. Even having lost half of the unit, Samurai Spearmen launched a counter-attack and wiped out all save for one Ashigaru unit, which hid away in a nearby village.
Meanwhile, lacking any other real opton, the surviving righ-flank Ashigaru actually broke throgh the forest and annihilated the ill-fated Arquebus, but in so doing opened themselves up for a coordinated attack by the Tokugawa forces and were all slain. The remaining Takeda forces, spread out and demoralised, ran away to fight another time, and treachery won the day.
All in all, the scenario pivots heavily in favor of Tokugawa forces, which was a nice change of pace after Round 1&3, where the opposite is arguably true. Even then, Gileforn culd have done some serious damage if not for the Tirncoat card and ridiculosly lucky Spearmen surviving assault after assault and wiping out the attackers. Good fun!
