Thanks to TA for staying up late and getting in character as the British by having a couple of glasses of the amber fluid, while I smoked Gaulois and drank terrible coffee (actually tea) as the sun came up. With lots of tricky terrain and nine banners to get it was not a quick game. Portuguese line stormed the bridge and into Orthez. French cavalry made it across the fords and wreaked havoc with a charge, accounting for all the horse units and the Portuguese lights but only one single block French cav. made it back across the river. The French then assumed a defensive posture, d'Armagnac moved into the forest to stiffen the lights. La Grande Maneouvre saw British line preparing a bayonet charge of the central hill, which was met with TWO artillery cannisters, although neither had much effect. Sadly for Picton the French had just become able to mount their own bayonet charge with the bonus of d'Armagnac's lights as flanking fire. The results were predictable. A rear guard action to chase down the depleted French artillery and wounded infantry by Picton leading a light cavalry unit was partially foiled by a ragged square which dispatched the last block of the brave riders. Then a final push into Orthez in search of banners exposed Clinton's Portuguese line to close combat from full strength French line in the rear two town hexes. The final banner was taken.

Hardly any action on the French right. Hill fled the field but no leaders were captured. A single hex of Orthez scored a banner for the British at the end.

opening brit move by the wing and french use some bombard but without hit,,brit begun fire on the first ln in orthez and the other on the rigth hill ,,french played force march
and kill all portugese on the right ouch!!and miss dice with its elan card after,,,and i use counter attack to kill 2 french inf
start the midgame its 3/3 banner,,following a furious charge and contre charge on the left ,,i m lucky for kill both lc and the gal and exit  my hc,,score rise 7/4
and the final i get 2 baionnet card (its better with british hand of course)french fire and hold kill me one more inf  but i launch baionnet and kill a french inf and stayed on the hill ,,last figth i use infantry first and kill the last for the 9...

Match 1gheintze (British)  9 banners wonCraterus (French)  7 banners wonSome unsuccessful feints by the British on their right resulted in the loss of two cavalry units and some infantry units giving the French an early advantage. The British then repositioned in preparation for a sustained assault in the center. A Portuguese unit was able to move into Orthez and maintain position there while the British infantry and cavalry overwhelmed the French forces on the hills, even while suffering some losses.
