Blücher's slow start: The French player is shown the Prussian's initial command cards and may choose as many as he wishes to be discarded and redrawn (without revealing).

conduct this after dealing both hands.

OT QF Game 1

Mark McG - French 3
TheMP - Prussian 6

Not going to write up the battle as the logfile is here. But the 'highlights'? Well, it was a game of extremes in cards and dice!

CARDS

Prussians lose their best cards at start as French can look at them and throw them away by scenario special rule at start.
Prussians never had a multi-sector command card throughout the whole game.

DICE

Prussians good dice at opening for their first 3 turns, and closing turns. Dreadful in the middle including a 17 dice Fire and Hold producing just 2 hits.

French awful dice throughout really. They did get a good roll in their very last turn, but hard to think of any others at all.

TOTAL EXTREME

3 block Prussian Militia Landwehr cavalry unit had a total of 26 dice rolled against it and took just 2 blocks as casualties. This included a 7 dice combined arms that hit just one block. As a result, this unit caused more mayhem than could ever be expected from such a unit.

jeez.. 26
I recollect at least 8d vs this unit whist it was unsupported with no retreat path, so any flag was cactus.

Yeah Mark, I counted them back. That's why I asked for the logfile straight after the game as I knew it was an extreme. For instance, remember, when they began their approach and first came into range? You used an artillery to fire at them with under a Bombard card. That was another 4 dice there that produced just a flag. That one was Iron Willed as I needed them to go forward to attack those 1 blockers. So all in all, with fire and melee dice, it was a total of 26 cubes!

by the way, anyone interested in playtesting early version, I am creating a vastly superior epic version of Lützen, to cover the whole battle. I actually think this particular battle needs an epic map to do it justice.

By recall my last turn roll was 3 hits + 1 flag on an unsupported Prussian Infantry out of 5 dice, and on play of a Inspired Infantry Leader to get a further 4 hits (to destroy the 1 block left). So really, it was a slightly better than average roll. It just looked really good compared to the rest.

FrenchricusRex (French) - Bayernkini(Prussian) - Game 1
3 - 6

Dont have a logfile, maybe Dave has one.

FrenchricusRex (Prussian) - Bayernkini(French) - Game 2
0 - 6

A failed "bluff" LGM move at start of the Prussians on their right, was bloody countercharged and after this, the french pressed further attacks on this prussian right side with less moves on center and right.

OT QF Game 2

The MP - French 3 lost 26 blocks
Mark McG - Prussian 6 lost 17 blocks

have to re-check Game 1 log to get the result of blocks lost to determine the tie.

In a stroke of revenge, the Prussian Lancers who couldn't knock out a French artillery were looking down a combined arms 8 dice in riposte. When the dice settled, the only thing that came close was a Flag, which the Lancers Iron will had them refuse.

regardless of the outcome, it was a tense and exciting match, and played pretty quick.

Game 1 result on recount was
Mark McG - French 3, 25 blocks lost
TheMP - Prussian 6, 19 blocks lost

so the end result was
Mark McG - 9 banners & 42 blocks lost
TheMP - 9 banners & 45 blocks lost

a victory (barely) snatched from the jaws of defeat.

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.
