Can player please check their Personal Messages please?
Under User -> Personal Messages

you can set your Profile to get an email when you have a message.

Is there a specific message that was sent that we all need to read, or just a friendly reminder to do so frequently?

I tried to set my profile to get an email, but I was not able to locate that option, can you be more specific as to how that is accomplished?

I've asked some players for a backup email address where I don't have one already, and I've had a few reports of unanswered messages about setting up matches.
So there is no universal message.

Adding email notifications
In User . -> Your Profile, you can Edit your profile.
Add the email in the appropriate field, and I'd suggest you review your Forum Settings in that tab as well.

Then, go into Personal messages. At the bottom on the left is a Settings link. Very discrete.. and not at all the place I look for first
You can switch on email notifications once you open the settings
