6 Gonzo-Britons
5 Marco-Romans
The Romans immediately Line Advanced forward, doing missile fire damage to two WARs. Britons responded with WARs, ultimately costing the Romans three MIs. At 3-0 the Britons were off to a good start. Another turn and the Britons destroyed an Aux and killed a leader with an lc2, taking the game to 5-0 Britons. Undaunted (and perhaps recklessly) the Romans brought their remaining MIs against the center/right ramparts, destroying an Aux, a WAR, and destroying the ramparts. Britons responded with a Double Time, which cost them a unit. The Romans Counterattacked, destroying an Aux and killing a LDR who was on his own. Suddenly the score was 5-5 and it was anyone's game. More action on the center/right, and the Britons took their sixth banner and the game with a mistaken attack from a hill (not allowed as per the special rules for this scenario but which we both forgot about in the heat of battle). Close game!
6 Marco-Britons
4 Gonzo-Romans
The Romans began cautiously, advancing Lights for missile attacks, especially on the left. The Britons responded in kind. The Romans focused on the left, trading missile fire while the Britons reshuffled their line to hide from Roman arrows. The Romans shifted focus to the center/right, concentrating their AUX arrows against the Britons on the ramparts there. The Roman Lights were having a bad arrow day, as they failed to score hits after many shots. Perhaps the Brits were just good at dodging. Arrows flying back and forth, the game was 1 hour 45 mins with one banner to the Britons. More arrows and a Briton LDR fell, giving the Romans their first banner. Finally the Romans advanced on the right, but to no avail. In the end, the Britons outlasted the Romans 6-4. Three and a half hour game!
