First battle
Tomek (Romans) - 6 banners
toganalper (Britons) - 5 banners

A very tense battle on both flanks. Each side lost a leader while the Romans assaulted the barricades on the right wing. The savage counter attack of the Britons turned back the auxilia cohorts and the fighting continued in the shallow river. On the left some stormtroopers managed to bring the battle within the hills and the enemy lost heart.

Second battle
Tomek (Britons) - 6
toganalper (Romans) - 4

A hard won victory for the good old Britons against a good opponent. Many prisoners were sacrificed and a golden eagle lost.

6 Gonzo-Britons
5 Marco-Romans

The Romans immediately Line Advanced forward, doing missile fire damage to two WARs. Britons responded with WARs, ultimately costing the Romans three MIs. At 3-0 the Britons were off to a good start. Another turn and the Britons destroyed an Aux and killed a leader with an lc2, taking the game to 5-0 Britons. Undaunted (and perhaps recklessly) the Romans brought their remaining MIs against the center/right ramparts, destroying an Aux, a WAR, and destroying the ramparts. Britons responded with a Double Time, which cost them a unit. The Romans Counterattacked, destroying an Aux and killing a LDR who was on his own. Suddenly the score was 5-5 and it was anyone's game. More action on the center/right, and the Britons took their sixth banner and the game with a mistaken attack from a hill (not allowed as per the special rules for this scenario but which we both forgot about in the heat of battle). Close game!

6 Marco-Britons
4 Gonzo-Romans

The Romans began cautiously, advancing Lights for missile attacks, especially on the left. The Britons responded in kind. The Romans focused on the left, trading missile fire while the Britons reshuffled their line to hide from Roman arrows. The Romans shifted focus to the center/right, concentrating their AUX arrows against the Britons on the ramparts there. The Roman Lights were having a bad arrow day, as they failed to score hits after many shots. Perhaps the Brits were just good at dodging. Arrows flying back and forth, the game was 1 hour 45 mins with one banner to the Britons. More arrows and a Briton LDR fell, giving the Romans their first banner. Finally the Romans advanced on the right, but to no avail. In the end, the Britons outlasted the Romans 6-4. Three and a half hour game!

Gomjabbar - Britons 3
Stephent - Romans 6
Romans launched a rapid assault on the right, aided by order medium and two double times, destroying an auxiliary, a light and a warrior, leading 3-0. With the British left destroyed, there followed skirmishing as the Romans tried to hunt the British out of these hills, eventually destroying the other two British left flank units for the loss of 1 medium - but at the same time the British counter-attacked in the centre and their right, destroying two Roman mediums for the loss of a warrior unit in fighting along the river. Final score 6-3 to the Romans, well played by Brad despite having the cards against him

Game 1
PCScipio42 (Britons) 6 banners
Andygor (Romans) 3 banners

Romans had some pretty bad luck with dice and Britons capitalized on a Spartacus card.

Game 3
Andygor (Britons) 6 banners
PCScipio42 (Romans) 3 banners

Game was tied 3-3 and I thought that I (Romans) was in good shape. Out came Clash, followed by a timely First Strike and then Sparatacus, game over.

Fun quick games.

1st leg: David I (Romans)  v Benlore (Britons)  6:4 (3:3 at half-time)
2nd leg Benlore (Romans) v David I (Britons)   5:6 (1:1 at half-time)

Two intriguing and looooong games, both really even and hanging on the roll of the dice and a frankly uneven card distribution in the second half of the second leg.

In the first leg the Britons sallied forth on both flanks but were beaten back and eventually were forced to take refuge in the crags. A solid mass of Roman legionnaires then swarmed up the left and centre, picking off weakened units with missile and melee with the final banner an auxilia forced off the battlefield by a javelin from the Roman Light. Meanwhile four severely weakend lights and auxilia watched on from the Roman side of the river. It was a near-run thing.

In the second leg the Roman light troops waded into the river and commenced fire, followed by a trio of legionnaries led by Scapula. More missile fire was exchanged with both sides hesitant to break their lines. The two flanking warrior units with their leaders were sorely depleted and retreated to the hills before a couple of Roman light units made it across the river and provoked a charge on a Line Command with some good rolling leaving it 1:1 but with the Romans having 3 units on 1 block and within melee range. Romans counter-attacked with good success but with an Order Medium the 1-block leaderless warrior on the left was still able to cross the river and destroy the auxilia on the flank while Caractacus finished off the arrow-ridden legionaries in front of Scapula in the centre. Contact was then made along the river with another British line command whilst the Romans suffering from a near-complete dearth of cards magaged to keep even. Britons played Clash of Shields with 3 units eligible to battle. The expected Counter-attack did not materialize and I am Spartacus followed soon thereafter. Somehow the Romans held on and it was 5:5. With weakened units everywhere both sides had opportunities to win but the Britons eventually made the most of their better chances by playing the Spartacus card again! Ben only picked up DoubleTime and Counter Attack right at the end when they could make little impact.

We both enjoyed the challenge of the terrain and the banter. I certainly had the better of the cards in the second round and stil only just snuck home.
