Scenario creation in Vassal

Playing Ancients for the first time in years. My old computer is dead along with HexBattle. I've tried to get it to work on my new laptop but to no avail. It is also out of date anyway as it doesn't have the latest expansions. So I've downloaded vassal but can't work out how you create new scenarios on it. Can anyone help please?

Well I read the instructions, but when I get the blank map there is nothing to use to create anything?

So I persevered with my old friend HexBattle and got that to work. I find it very easy to use and it gives official looking maps/scenario layouts. Its only downside is that it never got updated beyond Expansion 3, and so doesn't have a 2nd Greek (Spartan) army. I have been busy hoplitising (is that a word?) my Sicilian scenarios along with some minor and major updates.

this is for the CCA VASSAL Module v4.1, it is a swift guide, not exhaustive, and practice makes perfect

Open module
Start New Game offline [NEXT]
Select setup = Standard setup [NEXT]
Join game as observer [FINISH]
- this gives you a blank 13.9 hex map

Adding Terrain
Open the terrain window (a 3 layer icon in middle of ribbon)
drag tiles to map
to reposition tiles on map, hold SHIFT and left click to select
to adjust a tile orientation, select tile and right click to show menu

Adding Units
Open the Units window (block icon in ribbon)
drag units to map
reposition with click, drag drop
after all are placed, add block count (101 icon) or block symbols (lego icon) or both

Adjust Banner count
SHIFT-left click to select track
right click for menu

Change Scenario name
SHIFT-left click to select name
right click for menu
type in text box

Change Army plaques
SHIFT-left click to select plaque
right click for menu

Add Scenario Notes
Click scroll icon
In scenario tab, enter text
save

generally follow this template for Scenario notes
War Council

Top Army
• Leader: xxx
• # Command Cards
• Move First (delete as required)

Bottomn Army
• Leader: xxx
• # Command Cards
• Move First (delete as required)

Victory
# Banners

Special Rules
* blah, blah

Save Game as filename (generally battle name and year)

I have managed to create a scenario thank you very much, but I just have a few questions please?
1) How do you remove the 1st move star from the top army and put it with the bottom army?
2) In the Notes section, how do you get bold and italicized text?
3) How do you add the Command cards at the top and bottom of the map
4) How do I get the scenario onto this site?

1) End the Turn
2) you can't, just plain text
3) don't understand, can you show example?
4) add a new Topic to the Maps Forum in the right era.
Miletus would go in the Peloponnesian War
www.commandsandcolors.net/ancients/scena...-war-431-404-bc.html

there is in VASSAL the ability to save the map as an image. So once the setup is complete, save the map image as battlename.png
you can then edit the image, generally removing the card sideboard, but I guess adding Command Card counts or anything else

that image can then be added as an attachment to the Forum post, and inserted into the post to display.

I guess the format has changed. Some of the older scenarios on the site show the little black cards on the map along with the required victory banners. The latest maps seem not to do that now. The little black cards are now down in the war council.

What I'm trying to figure out is how I get my scenario nicely presented on the website with the historical background on a brown background etc. so that it looks like the others found here.

I do appreciate your help.

you need to use formatting on the website, which can be tricky

in source code, here is a scenario, and it uses some pre-set styles. Mostly I leave this to Alessandro

<p class="history" style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Historical Background</strong><br />After a disastrous campaign against neighboring Cyrene, Egyptians rebelled against their pharaoh Apries, who sent his finest general Amasis to quell the rebellion. Amasis was instead successfully wooed by the rebels and placed at the head of the uprising, with the climactic clash coming near Momemphis. This battle pitted Apries and his army of mostly Carian and Ionian mercenaries against a rebel force composed of his own countrymen. Despite fighting valiantly according to Herodotus, the mercenaries were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of Egyptians; Apries was later captured and executed, with Amasis succeeding him as the next Saitic pharaoh.<br /><em>The stage is set. The battle lines are drawn and you are in command. Can you change history?</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img style="border: 0pt none;" src="images/stories/CCA_maps/TT32.jpg" border="0" /></p>
<h2>War Council</h2>
<p class="ban1_grk">Royal Egyptian Army (use Greek blocks)<br />&gt; Leader: Apries<br />&gt; 5 Command Cards      </p>
<p class="ban1_eas">Rebel Army (use Spartan blocks)<br />&gt; Leader: Amasis<br />&gt; 5 Command Cards      <br />Move First </p>
<p class="victory">Victory<br />6 banners</p>
<p class="special_rule"><strong>Special Rules<br /></strong></p>
<p>none</p>
