Round Two Catalaunian Fields Roman Left
Togan, Huns, 5 banners, 30 blocks lost
JR, Romans, 7 banners, 27 blocks lost
Togan and I moved from our battle outside Savannah in the Tricorne MT02 event to the Catalaunian plains. Togan said he hoped I left my luck in South Carolina, but that was not to be.
Gonzo taught me a bitter lesson about overextending myself so I opened with a cautious rain of bowfire against the Hunnic Auxiliaries on the Roman right. Thanks to Darken the Sky, one Aux went to the banner row while another took some hits. Action then moved to the center - my heavies moved forward only to be pushed back by Gepid bowfire. Togan followed up with his heavy cavalry, slicing into my foot. However, with two Ambush cards lurking in my hand, I inflicted more hits than I suffered and saw off a Gepid cav unit.
My own heavies got to work, eliminating Arderic and his heavy cav unit. Togan countered against my right, killing a Roman Aux in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, he was well into the center of the board, and Sangiban was able to use Mounted Charge to seal off Attila's rout paths and trap some unwary Hunnic Aux as well. We were both two banners from victory, so I decided to go for the Aux instead of the big guy himself - it proved to be enough, as two Aux fell to grant me the win.
Another fun game, and I owe Togan a C&C rematch in the future when my luck has cooled off a bit!
