Round 6: 019 Solachon (586 AD) Kardarigan’s Stand

Viridovilas (Sassanid): 5 banners, ?? blocks lost
stormwalker (Byzantine): 4 banners, ?? blocks lost

My connection was lost during the game so I do not have the log file and I do not remember the exact numbers of blocks lost. If those are needed to determine the Semi-Finals then please write Max.

Sorry, I have just missed it.

Please find here below the game log. It was a tough battle. Some lucky rolls at the start of it, allows Kardarigan to hold the hills and brings its army to victory.

The final score is:

Round 6: 019 Solachon (586 AD) Kardarigan’s Stand

Viridovilas (Sassanid): 5 banners, 21 blocks lost
stormwalker (Byzantine): 4 banners, 27 blocks lost

Replied by Travis on topic VASSAL Mini-Tournament (MT1)
Thanks to Mark for running another great tournament, I thoroughly enjoyed learning Medieval and resuming hostilities with some familiar foes.

Several close matches that came down to a single big turn or game-changing momentum swing!

Semi-final 1: 008 Callinicum (531 AD) Phase 1

mk20336 (Sassanid): 1 banner, 27 blocks lost
stormwalker (Byzantine): 6 banners, 13 blocks lost

The battle begun with the Sassanid army reorganizing its ranks and then pushing on its left wing in an attempt to gain some ground on the hills. This push was halted by the Byzantine army. Then the main part of the battle commenced in the center.

The Sassanids moved their units closer to the main Byzantine line twice but they were on both occasions repelled with the ranged fire (the Leadership cards played as Darken the Sky proved very effective). As a result the weakened Sassanid army was unable to hold off the following Byzantine charges (during those final clashes the dice were again clearly in favour of the Byzantine side).

Many thanks to Michał for playing! We hope to play a rematch this week.

Both games the battle took place on and around the hills. The left section of the Byzn. never saw any action. The dice luck was on my side either way. We got interrupted several times and I had to resynch. Luckily, John has the log files. I will attach them as soon as I get them from him.

The first battle started with an attack of the Sassanids heavy cavalry, which got rejected and then re-battled by the Byzn. center. The Sassanid heavy cav group got eliminated. The rest of the Sassanids could not resist the Byzantine attacks.

The second game also started with the assault of the Sassanid Heavy Cavalry with a mounted charge. that weakened the Byzantine right section, from there there was always an uphill battle for the weakened Byzantine, and they could not turn their luck around.

Thanks for pointing out, you are absolutely right. I replaced the lost block counts. The correct version should be

Game 2
Togan Alper 6 banners, 12 blocks lost
Ezpickings 3 banners, 29 blocks lost

I will attach the log files and correct my earlier post in a bit

Semi-final 2: 008 Callinicum (531 AD) Phase 1

stormwalker (Sassanid): 6 banners, 13 blocks lost
mk20336 (Byzantine): 3 banners, 24 blocks lost

This battle begun similarly to the first battle: on the left wing the Sassanid army tried their luck with ranged fire scoring this way their first banner. Then the main part of the battle commenced in the center, where the two armies collided. A sequence of the Leadership, Mounted Charge and Leaders cards was played and once again the dice favoured one side over the other.

Many thanks to Michał for playing!
