The point of Espionage is to see what your opponents plans are for the future battle. I appreciate your gracious attitude in not looking at the cards, but it seems counter to the general intent of the card. I believe it is more obvious that you look (spy) at the three random cards you draw, discard the two that could possibly cause you the most trouble in the future and return the least harmful to you card to your opponent. This is how I have always played it.
If you look at the image on the card.... The Spy is in a tree with field glasses looking intently into his opponents area. Hardly something done blindly.
