Let's get started: MT (mini-tournament) 1!

For those of you familiar with the mini-tournament format that has been around for several years for several of the other C&C games, I (and I hope many, many more of you :) ) would like to get those rolling on this site for The Great War.

I hope to start this first tournament off with 8 players, but the format will just fine with an even number between 6 and 14.

I'll post more details as they come about, but for now please indicate interest below. I hope to get things started in 1-2 months from now, or as soon as we have 10 players interested.

Also, if there is interest in having an on-going Ladder-style play going on, I would enjoy having that as well - I'll start another thread for that. Anything to boost the number of Vassal players!

Enjoy.

This may take awhile to get enough interest, but that is fine with me - busy time of year, plus still participating in other C&C Vassal tournaments. I'll keep an eye on this, but if interest doesn't accelerate, I'll get something started with 6 players by the end of the year. 3 signed up so far, but I know I can convince at least three other players :)

I'm new to this forum and to the game system. Having just purchased The Great War board game find the idea of a tournament very interesting and would like to join please. But how does the mechanics of the tournament work?

That makes [strike]four[/strike] five :) (was responding to Chris' post, when Al snuck a reply in!)

Nutshell explanation for the tournament structure is:
-Players divided into two groups; number of rounds in the preliminary portion of the tournament are equal to the number of players in each group

-a player plays a different scenario (round) against each of the players in the other group

-usually the time frame is one week allotted for each round + an extra week - e.g. 6 weeks for a 10-player tournament, 7 weeks for a 12-player tournament; schedule the rounds in any order, just be sure to get all matches played within the time frame

-after all preliminary round matches are completed, the two players from each group with the highest medal totals square off in a two match semifinal round - same scenario twice, highest medal total advances (lowest figure total lost is the tie-breaker), repeated for the final round with a different scenario.

OK thanks for that explanation, much clearer now but what I was most confused about was how were the games going to be played when everyone is potentially so far away from each other. Then I spotted this VASSAL subject and I'm suspecting that's what you will use to actually play the games. So I'll try and load the software and have a go before you get the tournament up and running. If I'm still not with what your about, let me know.

Many Thanks

I think we should advertise the MT on BGG and CSW. Not many will know of this site if they are starting new to this game.
