Historical Notes

The Death of King Edward in January of 1066 caused various claims for the throne of England to emerge which culminated in the Battle of Hastings. Edward had married Edith, the only daughter of Godwin of Wessex, but their marriage produced no heirs.
At the time of Edward's death, The Duke of Normandy was William and he would make his claim to the throne. Harold's claim was based on Edward's widow, who was his sister. Both claims were tenious at best and would only end in bloodshed.
Harold and his army invaded Normandy and both armies met at Hastings. Harold was mortally wounded in the battle and William claimed the throne.
