It is not explicitly stated in the special rules, but I assume that intent is that the railroad battery piece can still only move on the railroad?

As you said, there are no "official" old edition or new Edition railroad tiles.
You must use the available different fanmade Terrain tiles, and if you dont like it, make your own and share it here with us

About the old left/right railroads, you are right, but remember, this old Version was done a long time ago, so at this time nobody knew, if there are some official railroad tiles and rules will published :)

I don´t believe, that any official railroads and rules would use the "2section variant", if there are some official railroad rules in future.

They will looks and work more the railroad tiles/rules in MM44.

The original ("Tournament") version of the battle used the Left/Center line as the "railroad," with the special rule that the railroad battery had to always advance or retreat 2 spaces at a time. Any chance of getting that version up here, since, officially, anyway, there are no railroad tiles for BC150?
