I try to formulate an alternative proposal. Each round we pick one scenario. Each player plays this scenario against the other four players, two times as the red and two times as the yellow. In this way we can keep track of the players record using medals and losses, as usual.

well considering that it is four games per round, I'd suggest two rounds. maybe three if people is really committed. but I'd stay on the safe side and say two.

on the whole I'd prefer to play 4 scenarios twice rather than 2 scenarios 4 times.
what do other think?

Me too. I did not realize it immediately, but, if I'm not mistaken, this can be accommodated in my proposal. Each round we pick TWO scenarios. Each player plays scenario 1 against two opponents, on different sides, and scenario 2 against the other two. In this ways each player plays each scenario on both sides. If we have 2 rounds, it is 4 scenarios, 8 games in total.

Let's see in detail how one round could work. Let a, b, c, d, and e denote the players. 1 and 2 denote the scenarios and y and r stand for yellow and red sides. respectively. This is the list of games:

players sides scenario
ab yr 1
ac ry 1
ad yr 2
ae ry 2
bc ry 2
bd yr 1
be yr 2
cd ry 2
ce ry 1
de yr 1

for example, in game 2 (second row) player a plays scenario 1 as red against player c as yellow. Honestly, I don't have a theorem for how many different matching schemes are possible... but one is enough for our purposes.

a problem would be where Game 1 & Game 2 have different banner totals. Tough to match up

103 Koriyama Castle (1540) - River Enokawu 5 banners
104 Koriyama Castle (1540) - September 4 banners
105 Koriyama Castle (1540) - October 5 Banners
106 Koriyama Castle (1541) - January 6 banners
107 Mikata-Ga-Hara (1572) 7 banners

Mark, I think you missed the essential point: if the scheme is correct, everybody is going to play exactly the same scenarios exactly the same number of times, half as red and half as yellow.

can I say 'set it up' and you go?
Looks a little tricky to me, but I'm still dazed from work

Samurai Battle VASSAL Tournament #4

Find below the randomly generated matching for the SBVT4.

There are no "rounds". Essentially every player will play 4 scenarios 2 times each, one time with the yellow faction and one time with the red, against changing opponents. In this way each couple of players will play exactly 2 scenarios.

Scoring is based on medals and figure losses, as usual. There are neitrher semi- nor final: the player with the highest number of medals after playing the full series of scenarios is the winner. Losses serve as tie break, the lower the better.

I think it is reasonable to expect that everything is over in max two months.
