Game 1
giulio (Romans) - 7 banners
PCScipio42 (Carthaginians) - 1 banner
The Carthaginian elephants get killed by Romans javelins at the very beginning of the game. Thanks to a good hand of cards, Romans speedily advance in their right section. Cartago replies with a double time. Romans lose one med inf but thanks to a first strike they cripple a couple of Carthaginian units. Then they counter eliminating three infantry units and one leader, with a lucky 1 die leader check. Without leaders and heavy troops, Carthaginians implement a retreat-and-fire strategy, but the fire part does not receive the support of dice. Romans close up with the cornered enemies and collect the last medals. Fast game.
Game 2
Giulio (Carthaginians) 7 banners
PCScipio42 (Romans) - 3 banners
Carthaginians move the light cavalry and elephants behind the infantry line. These units ended up never being used in the game. The Romans advance re-forming the line and preparing for the attack, but the Carthaginians strike first with a double time on their right flank. A melee follows between Romans heavy/med troops and Carthaginian heavy/med and barbarians. In a couple of occasions, lucky (for me) flag rolls deny the Romans their victory points. The result is that, in the end, heavily battered Carthaginian units manage to break the Romans left flank. A single Roman med unit with leader survives. Romans obtain two medals by finishing up some scattered 1-block Carthaginian units. At the same time, the bulk of the Carthaginian army moves in the center to collect the last two medals.
Thanks to Forrest for two nice and fast games (it was the first time we played together).
PS: I don't have a log file for the second game. I attach the saved end-game situation.
