The Japanese Type 98 So-Da armored personnel and ammunition carrier had a chassis based on the Type 97 Te-Ke tankette with its engine compartment moved to the front. A crew of two operated the vehicle, and it could transport up to six additional people. It weighed 4.5 tonnes and had a top speed of 28 mph. The Japanese put it to use as a personnel and ammunition carrier in forward-line areas; as an 'artillery tractor': and to tow a gun trailer.
