Poland developed this family of tankettes beginning in the early 1930s, based on the chassis of the British Carden Loyd tankette of the late 1920s but with an improved hull, more powerful engine, and thicker armor (up to 10 mm). Their small size suited them for reconnaissance and infantry support, but with their light armament they stood no chance in direct combat against German tanks (except the Panzer I). A crew of two operated the vehicle, and it had a top speed of 27 mph. Fabryka Samochodów, PZInż, produced 575 units between 1931 and 1939. Most of these were unarmed or carried a single machine gun within the fixed superstructure; about 24 examples carried a 20 mm gun, and a handful more carried a 37 mm or 40 mm gun. This variant carried one 7.92 mm Ckm wz.25 Hotchkiss machine gun in a forward-facing mounting.
