The Soviet T-70 light tank carried a 45 mm L/46 M1932/38 (20-K) main gun in a fully-rotating turret capable of firing both ant-tank and anti-personnel rounds. It also featured a coaxial 7.62 mm DT machine gun. It weighed 9.2 tonnes and could attain a top speed of 28 mph. Though an improvement upon earlier Soviet light tanks and directly evolved from the T-60, with only a two-person crew the T-70 was out-classed by all medium and heavy tanks on the Eastern Front. The type had the advantage of being able to be produced by smaller factories, however, and so stayed in service through WWII. The chassis also served as the foundation for other armored vehicles, including the second-most-produced Soviet armored vehicle type of World War II, the SU-76M self-propelled gun. The Soviets produced 8,226 vehicles from March 1942 through October 1943. These stats reflect the standard ToI T-70 unit.
