The Sd.Kfz. 250 family of light armored half track vehicles were similar in appearance to the larger Sd.Kfz. 251, with thin but sloped armor, open top, and single access door in the rear. Germany used this type in all theaters of operation throughout the war, and in a wide variety of roles including command; cable-laying; anti-aircraft; reconnaissance; artillery spotting; observation; ammunition carrier; mortar carrier; and others. Manufacturers Demag, Adlerwerke, Büssing-NAG, and MWC produced about 6,628 units of all variants between 1941 and 1945. The Sd.Kfz. 250/1 is the troop transport version (leichter Schützenpanzerwagen, or “light armored personnel carrier”). A crew of two operated the vehicle, and it could also carry up to four additional people. It was armed with two 7.92 mm MG 34 pintle-mounted machine guns and had a maximum speed of 47 mph.
