The first German tank destroyer to see action during World War II, this vehicle mounted a Czech Škoda 47 mm A6 L/43 (German: 4.7cm PaK (t)) anti-tank gun in a three-sided, open-topped superstructure on a converted Panzer I Ausf. B chassis. The gun was capable of firing both anti-tank and anti-personnel rounds. A crew of three operated the vehicle, which had a top speed of 25 mph. The 202 vehicles built served in the Battle of France, North Africa, and the Eastern Front. By late 1942 the type receded from significant front-line operations due to attrition and the increasing ineffectiveness of its main gun relative to newer and better-armored Soviet tanks.
