This 7.5 cm (L/46) towed anti-tank gun formed the backbone of German anti-tank guns for the later part of World War II, mostly in towed form, but also on a number of tank destroyers. It was effective against almost every Allied tank until the end of the war, only struggling to penetrate heavier vehicles like Soviet IS tanks; American M4A3E2 Sherman 'Jumbo' and M26 Pershing tanks; and later variants of the British Churchill tank. The gun fired anti-personnel and anti-tank rounds. The Rheinmetall company produced 23,303 examples from November 1941, and they served in all theaters of German operations. A crew of six operated the gun. German industry also modified the gun for vehicle mounting as the 7.5 cm KwK 40 (with two barrel lengths: L/43 and L/48); these equipped Pz. IV and Pz. V Panther tanks and various tank destroyers. These stats represent the base ToI unit.
