This open-topped Gun Motor Carriage (GMC) was a modified Dodge WC52 light truck mounting a light (37 mm Gun M3 (L/56.6)) anti-tank gun in a rearward-facing mount and used in the infantry support and anti-tank roles. The gun could fire both anti-tank and anti-personnel rounds (including canister). The 5,380 units built saw limited service in the Mediterranean, European, and Pacific theaters from 1942 into 1944. The U.S. declared the vhicle obsolete in January 1945 because it was poorly suited to modern warfare, being unarmored; armed with an inadequate gun; and with its rear-mounted gun required to back into firing positions. A crew of four operated the vehicle, and it had a top speed of 55 mph.
