The Allies used this 8.3-tonne American-made half-track extensively throughout the war. It served in all theaters. With about 53,000 units produced, this vehicle served as a troop carrier, artillery tractor, and reconnaisance vehicle; they were also fitted for use as self-propelled artillery, anti-aircraft, and mortar carriers. The type was an elongated version of the earlier M2 half track. The troop carrier version carried a pintle-mounted .50 (12.7 mm) M2 Browning machine gun for air defense and two .30 (7.62 mm) machine guns. It had a maximum speed of 45 mph. These stats represent the base ToI unit.
