The Kangaroo was a Canadian open-topped armoured personnel carrier (APC) created by removing the turret from a tank chassis and removing the main gun from self-propelled artillery vehicles. Beginning mid-1944, Canadians used many tracked armored vehicle types: M3 and M5 Stuart; M7 Priest; M4 Sherman; Churchill; and obsolete Canadian Ram tanks. Kangaroos were an expedient 'in the field' measure but were so successful British and Commonwealth forces adopted the practice. Their ability to manoeuvre in the field with tanks was a major advantage over earlier designs (both tracked and wheeled), and led to dedicated APC designs introduced by almost all armies immediately after the war. This unit represents a generic Kangaroo. It is armed with one .30 cal machine gun on a pintle mount, with a maximum speed of 30 mph.
