This highly successful series of off-road capable, 2 1⁄2-ton, 6x6 trucks saw extensive service with the U.S. armed services in all theaters, and also with the Soviets under the Lend-Lease agreement. GMC's reference for this amphibious variant was ""CCKW,"" which came from the company's model nomenclature: ""C"" for designed in 1941; ""C"" for conventional cab; ""K"" for all-wheel drive; and ""W"" for dual-tandem rear axles. The type had a maximum speed of 45 mph. General Motors Corporation and other manufacturers built this type in large numbers to a standardized design; they produced about 572,500 units between 1939 and 1945 in variants that included fire engines, dump trucks, radio vehicles, maintenance, water tank, and many others. The standard utiliy/troop carrier version was also known as ""Deuce and a Half"" or ""Jimmy."" The amphibious DUKW vehicle was built on the CCKW chassis. These stats represent the base ToI unit.
