Also known as the Universal Carrier, this family of light armored tracked vehicles served British and Commonwealth forces in all theaters throughout WWII (and beyond), in a variety of roles. During WWII, a number of manufacturers produced about 57,000 vehicles. The Soviets received about 2,560 Universal Carriers and similar Lloyd Carriers via Lend-Lease during the war. The type could carry machine guns, mortars, troops, supplies, artillery, and observation equipment. It had a top speed of 48 mph. These stats reflect the base ToI unit, equipped with a single pintle-mounted, forward-facing 7.7 mm (.303 cal.) Bren light machine gun.
