The Soviet Broneavtomobil (BA) 11 heavy armored car was intended to replace the BA-10, but the German invasion of June 1941 prevented this. The three-axle BA-11 was designed to attack infantry, cavalry, and medium armored cars, and with 13mm of frontal armour, it was only slightly less protected than the most common Soviet light tank of the era, the T-26. Like the BA-10, the BA-11 also featured a 45 mm L/46 M1932/38 (20-K) gun in a fully-rotating turret, capable of firing both anti-tank and anti-personnel rounds; carried two 7.62 DT machine guns; and was operated by crew of four. It had a top speed of about 35 mph and weighed about 8.5 tonnes. Only 17 were built, and the Red Army deployed all of these during 1941–1942 on the Leningrad front. Operational experience showed the type to have poor off-road mobility due to being overloaded and lacking all-wheel drive. All examples were lost by 1942.
