The Hungarian 43M Zrínyi II assault gun was of turretless casemate design based on a slightly enlarged Turán tank chassis. Hungarian officials were inspired by the performance of German StuG III vehicles on the Eastern Front but were not able to procure enough of these, so they sought a fast way to produce a vehicle with the same role. It featured a 40/43M 105 mm MÁVAG L/14 or L/20.5 howitzer. It weighed 21.5 tonnes and carried a crew of four at a top speed of 27 mph. Hungarian manufacturers delivered 72 Zrínyi IIs to the Hungarian army between late 1943 and mid 1944. Like its short-barreled StuG III counterparts, the Zrínyi II was most effective in infantry support roles, but could knock-out tanks at shorter ranges (particularly from ambush positions). They type mainly served in Galicia in the summer of 1944 against the massive Soviet offensive.
