Auer sustaining horrible losses while crossing the Sauer River, 76th Infantry Division adopts more cautious protocols in their attempts to push thmugh the Siegfried Line. On the morning of February 11th, 1945, a 15-minute barrage from an entire artillery battalion is unleashed on a small German fortified position, and followed up by mortar bombardment in prelude to a fidtscale attack.

This may have been noted elsewhere (i.e., on Board Game Geek), but I wanted to log it here as well that "Silence the Guns" is the name of this scenario original ToI base game. In ToI Next Wave, this scenario is called "Uphill Battle." There are some notable differences between these versions.

In particular, the later (NW) version:
  1. Gives the American Division 1 2 Elite Infantry and only 28 Regular Infantry, rather than the 30 Regular in the original version;
  2. Gives the American player the "Artillery 1" and "Supply 1" Strategy Decks, rather than "Command 1" and "Ground Support 1" in the original version;
  3. Gives the German player the "German Reinforcements 1" and "Ground Support 1" Strategy Decks, rather than "German Reinforcements 1" and "Morale 1";
  4. Gives the German player reinforcements of 2 Squad Bases (4 Regular Infantry, 3 Elite Infantry, 1 Officer) and 1 Panzer IV, rather than the 2 Squad Bases (7 Elite Infantry, 1 Officer), 2 SdKfz 251 Half-Tracks, and 1 Panzer IV of the earlier version;
  5. Gives the German player a 2-point Objective Marker on the pillbox hex (map tile 3B) in "Uphill Battle," but only a 1-point marker in "Silence the Guns";
  6. Gives the American player a 3-point Objective Marker in the building hex (map tile 9A) in "Uphill Battle," but only a 1-point marker in "Silence the Guns."

Overall, I interpret this as an attempt at re-balancing the "Silence the Guns" scenario from the original to the Next Wave version, in favor of the Americans. To wit:
  • American player will gain 2 additional Command Points each round;
  • American Division 1 has 2 additional firepower in the form of 2 Elite figures replacing 2 Regular;
  • German player has 12 less firepower in the form of 4 Elite figures being replaced by 4 Regular, and not receiving 2 SdKfz 251 half tracks;
  • American player gains the use of artillery ("Artillery 1" Strategy Deck) and has access to reinforcements where it did not have previously ("Supply 1" Strategy Deck).
