General Meretskov realized that his inability to secure a bridgehead across the Neva River South of Lennigrad had kept him from attacking the German Army south of the Neva. But now it was winter and the Neva had frozen solid (well enough to allow KV-1 tanks to cross) for a crossing at the village of Marino. The Radfahr-Abteilung 170th Infantry Division would bear the brunt of a two hour artillery shelling before the attack by elements of the 136th Rifle Division and the 61st Tank Brigade, 67th Army.

Special Rules Because of heavy snows, all units move 1 less hex than normal. All Soviet forces must cross the Neva River by the end of round 4 (except reinforcements). Once they cross the river, Soviet forces cannot retreat back across the river. Use frozen river rules from page 6 of the FOTB rulebook. The two objective buildings are concrete structures with a cover of 8.

Played this one yesterday and here you can find some questions:
  1. I don't understand the necessity to cross the river... What are the trenches and buildings for, if the Russians can't hide in?
  2. Crossing the river seems mandatory ... but what happens if you don't cross it?
  3. Is the bridge considered to be "river crossed"? Or is it really necessary to go beyond the river?
  4. Does the "snow squalls" op card only apply to Russians? Or is it shared by both sides?
In our game the German MG on the hill had a LoS of 6 against the infantry, while the Soviet unit had a LoS of 3 hexes only.
The result was that the Soviets saw no one to shoot at, while the Germans slaughtered everyone with three "double MG" units.
In other scenarios using that card it's considered "shared:

    2. www.commandsandcolors.net/tideofiron/sce...ude-to-breakout.html
    3. www.commandsandcolors.net/tideofiron/sce...ng-the-red-tide.html
  5. OP Card - Tank Riders on KV1 tanks? Really? with 3 movement?
The infantry moves faster by itself, especially if there are 2 PAKs to face on the other side that roll 10 dice each!
  6. In the hypothesis of staying behind the river for the first 2 or 3 turns ... the Russian would find himself without command points, therefore impossible to take the initiative or play command cards for the entire game.
I do think the maximum result for the Soviet side could be a "Draw"... every other victories look too difficult to achieve.

Anyone played this game?
What do you think about these points?
