Round 4, 256 - Nivelle Offensive (Caronne Afternoon)

Player 1 (German) mk20336 6 medals, 18 figures lost
Player 2 (French) EZPickins 4 medals, 14 figures lost

This is one of the most unusual TGW scenarios I have seen. French tanks behind the German lines. No shelling, a lot of French units i open terrain. So we had quick and bloody game in which my 3 recons had a decisive factor in German victory. has not played the game for long time, good to have another MT going on!

Thanks to John for fun play!

Round 1, 253 - Nivelle Offensive (St. Quentin) - 1-4 April 1917

Player 1 (German) mk20336 6 medals, 11 figures lost
Player 2 (French) mirkobruner 5 medals, 30 figures lost

One of the most exciting TGW games I played. Germans were almost whole game behind, with cards mainly on right section where not too much action happened. I lost two villages for permanent points, two hills plus a unit and was at the verge of defeat. Counter attack at hills and constant back and forth allowed - after lucky roll in last turn (3 hits on 3d) Central Powers to prevail.

Thanks to Mirko for great game!

PS. My log did not save properly so I am attaching the picture from the end of our game.

Round 1, 253 - Nivelle Offensive (St. Quentin) - 1-4 April 1917

Player 1 (German) Mark McG 6 medals, 11 figures lost
Player 2 (French) EZPickens 3 medals, 29 figures lost

My initial impression was the French would roll over the top of the Germans, but the open ground was deadly (as were my dice). French came up their Right first, but we pushed back with 3 losses. Then they came up the centre, taking a hill hex, but a one Recon card and a deadly crossfire of LMGs gave the German another 2 medals. The last push on the French left against village took a nasty Butt & Bayonets for the 6th medal.

Germans stand and fire, with a bit of movement on the hills.

Round 2 ,254 - Nivelle Offensive (La Folie Farm) - 4 April 1917

Player 1 (German) mk20336 5 medals, 10 figures lost
Player 2 (French) Togan 2 medals, 23 figures lost

After first attack I thought Togan has me :) He pushed my two units from trenches on his left / my right and was ready to follow-up. My 8d (!!!) storm of fire helped to prevent this. The field art is also a deadly unit - I think I played first time with it. All in all, piece by piece, Germans won war of attrition.

Thanks to Togan for fun play!

I agree with Mark that this one looked like a French steamroller, but it didn't work out that way. The French used their reserve artillery early and often, but they could not get a hit at any decent rate. The Germans repositioned their MG and mortar units to a better support position, which proved critical at the end. Pot shots were exchanged for a while until the French assaulted the center and advanced over the top. Followed by a French assault on the German left. However, that left a lot of targets on open ground for subsequent German turns and they took advantage. Germans counterattacked a recon card for the 5th medal and used a storm of fire to end it. The French had a hand of recon cards for most of the game and could never get a full assault going due to it.
