Having trouble editing so will post this addendum here. Game between Gonzo and George Curtiss was Round 1 Niergnies. Have logfile if someone knows how I can upload it. Not sure if it is really needed.

Malmaison

Renaud (French) 7 including 1st trench line, 24 blocks lost
vs Gonzo (Germans) 4, 29 blocks lost

The French led with their 2 tanks, eventually helped by a Combat Barrage. The Germans primarily riposted on their left, eventually surging forward with their infantry. They could not take the Schneider (despite trying twice with a 1-block infantry--the benefit of no battle back in TGW), but did nab 3 (?) French infantry eventually before the French counter-attack cleaned the flank. In the end, it took an infantry assault o the French right and some nice die-rolling to eliminate the last German unit needed for a French victory. Body Armor delayed the outcome, but a final shot by the French Marskman unit (1 die roll) sealed the deal for the good guys ;-)

Round 4 -- MM06 Chaudun (31 May 1918)

JimDauphinais (German) 7 Medals, 13 Figures Lost

Renaud (Allies) 4 Medals, 20 Figures Lost

As the Germans, I chose 3 LMGs special  personnel and 1 Spotter Personnel.   I placed all three LMGs on my right and the Spotter with the Mortar toward my right.

Renaud, as the French, opted for a leader for his single Machine Gun unit starts in his center and a Marksman for one of his infantry units on his right.

The initial barrage opened up a wire location and placed some cover on my right.

My initial card draws were very good for my two mortar units.  I drew Reposition and Mortar Barrage Combat Cards.

I opened with moving my single captured Mk IV Male forward and getting my two mortars into position after moving some of my infantry out of the way.  Renaud took advantage of my bunched infantry by hitting with me with his reserve artillery.

I then let loose with my tank and a two unit mortar barrage against his Machine Gun unit in the center.  I was able to take the unit out opening the way for my infantry.  However, I then bogged my tank.

Renaud the intervened with his FT17 from his right to take advantage of my Mk  IV Male being bogged.  It was not successful.

I then rolled to unbog my tank.  I failed, but my tank's attack (with one less die) against the FT17 caused the FT 17 to take a confirmed hit.

Renaud pulled back his FT17 to the right and I started moving infantry forward on my left.

Renaud then attacked one of my infantry units on my left, but then bogged his FT 17.

I then played an Advance over the Top Combat Card along with a Left Assault card to Close Combat Renaud's bogged FT 17 with two infantry units.  Despite getting to make a 3 die confirmed hits roll against the FT 17, the FT 17 survived.

However, Renaud's subsequent counterattacks on his right failed to accomplish anything.  He also tried several Reserve Artillery activations to try to pick off my exposed infantry units in my backfield.

Ultimately, I was able to once again close combat Renaud's bogged FT 17 with two infantry units.  This time, the FT 17 went down.  I had 5 medals at this point.

I was then able to unbog my captured Mk IV male in the center and started hitting his infantry sitting in the trench line between his left and center.  I took out another French infantry unit raising me to 6 medals.

Renaud tried to stop it with his other FT17, but his attack was not effective.

I then closed the game out by playing Infantry Assault to run down with two of my infantry units one his weakened infantry units that was on the hill in his left center.  These attacks worked and gained me my seventh medal.

It was a very interesting game.   Ultimately, I feel I had a number of good breaks with the card draws and my dice, which I feel

put Renaud at a bit of a disadvantage.

The only that made the score honorable for me is that I scored 4 Recon cards (including 1 through Counter-Attack), which is very lucky... I did potentially hurt my prospect by misunderstanding part of the bog rule (and only realized that late in this fourth game of the tournament for me so far!), but Jim well deserves his victory.

    Round 3

gotigerssc (German) 7 medals, 14 figures lost
Renaud (British) 3 medals, 25 figures lost

I had the best run of luck on bursts at the beginning of the game and it set the tone for the rest of it. Renaud quickly moved up to claim the front trench line and I did not put up much of a fight for it. Instead, I withdrew to the second line and waited. Most of the time I was taking single die shots and quite often they would end up as a burst. This eventually wore them down enough for me to get the win. I was fortunate enough to claim two medals on recon cards while Renaud had a bunch in his hand that he didn't want to play because of the counter, which I also had. Tough to win with those conditions when you need to advance. As always, Renaud is an excellent competitor and I enjoy our matches.
