So we finally found time to play with Mark our remaining game. I was lucky to have possibility to withdraw at least part of my infantry (usually easy target for British tanks in that scenario). Also bringing forward male German tanks in one group paid off, as no less then 2 British ones were destroyed. We both bogged once, which - looking at the amount of bog rolls - was pretty small number.

So, with that game we finished our Tourney - congrats to Mark for collecting highest number of banners and winning the competition!

Pretty much a straight up tank battle. A Rapid British advance saw the Germans rush & rotate away, and in pursuit one Whippet bogged down. Both German A7Vs set upon him, but with a triple Burst result he was killed outright first shot. On the breakthrough, 2 more burst hits on the Male tank, taking it down to 1 silhouette.

British then tried to shoot down the infantry, and in desperation a Direct from HQ activated EVERY German unit for close assault. The Whippets were tough, and killed a infantry on butt & bayonet, but the Male tank took a final confirmed hit on the 3rd attack.

Whippets tried to hurt the infantry, to no avail, and the A7Vs rolled them up with a doubled confirmed hit. 3 dead British tank units!
Dumb luck winning a very swift game.

The British male tank valiantly (sort of) battled the German A7Vs who eventually broke into the British trench and ran amuck, killing 2 infantry units.
Meanwhile the Whippet tanks commenced the slaughter of the German infantry, slowed only by their bogging down. At one point both A7Vs and two Whippets were bogged.
First time I've seem Body Armour used to effect when a German infantry in the open shielded them selves from the Whippet fire.

Tough scenario for the Germans

Michal took down the 3 infantry on the German Left flank, and I took down two of his. The main difference was I could hit his (bogged) tanks and he barely hit mine at all. Mostly I crept into battle with my tanks, but did bog once on a gain ground. Luckily I unbogged straight away, whilst Michal couldn't recover his two that bogged from moving 2 hexes. They paid the price, being destroyed by German male tank fire.

That is kind of scenario where german infantry is decimated by thousands. It is really hard to get any British down, but with some luck I managed to take on Whippet.

My initial drive up the right flank shot down 2 Infantry units, and an early confirmed hit on the A7V unit gave me some optimism about killing the German tank unit, though it transpired this was the only hit the A7V would take in either match. The Whippets and British infantry acted fairly circumspectly for the early part, and John had lost about 20 figures before the first hit on the British. A German attack up the centre played into the British Storm of Fire and MG barrage, killing 1 infantry unit outright on 5d. The two Whippets on the Right had to come over to the centre, and whilst rolling no bogging at all for some time, one bogged right in front of the German trench.. uh oh. Surrounded by German infantry, he fought manfully, but eventually was destroyed. In the meantime, the other Whippets came up, and destroyed another German infantry, and chased the German MG offmap for victory. The Whippets pretty much carried this battle by themselves.

Of the 5 British figures lost, 4 were Whippets, so with an odd extra hit, could have gone differently.

An initial decision to flee using Infantry Assault and Over the top proved to be the correct one, removing the German Left flank infantry out of harms way. The A7V then went on the prowl (in a careful no bogging way) to kill off two Whippet units (4 banners), assisted by the Reserve Artillery, with a rather strange combination of a Box Barrage, a flag result, which resulted in a confirmed kill. John couldn't touch the A7V, despite many confirm hit rolls, and focusing on it lost him the game. A rather bold British infantry unit entering the German trenches was the other banner (the 3rd by count).

The A7V seems pretty tough to even touch, let alone kill.

Todd,
regarding your question ("Do female tanks hit on deadly die side in close combat?") let us look at the rules:

"A Mark IV female tank has a range of 4 hexes:
(adjacent no ranged combat, the 4 dice is close combat)
(two hexes to target 3 dice, Deadly dice do not hit)"

So I would say that in close combat, as all units, also female tanks hits on deadly die. But at the range of 2 hex they do not score deadly die hits.

Mark,
can you please update the table with results - we have already 6 games played (maybe we can do also soem table with summary results):

This was a very swingy battle. I thought that I had it made midway through. But then a brave infantry unit charged a tank and took it out in one hit. It was very tense with us both knowing we could lose if one more unit it lost. Luckily though a little wit and a lot of luck, the Germans pulled through.

PS Do female tanks hit on deadly die side in close combat? I think they should. (see main rules) But, I want to make sure I'm playing this right.

The British tanks had early successes by charging the German's left flank and wiping out their infantry. The tanks dueled for a while to little advantage of either. (Tanks are tough to kill!) Meanwhile the Germans tried to launch a counter offensive on their right but was met with stiff opposition by the British. Blows were traded evenly. But this was not enough to win the day.

Overall, riffle casualties were high and there was almost no action in the center.

seems to be rather busy for me of late, and I'm now going camping for a week.

However, I should be back on Oct 5, and have a few days at home on Oct 6 & 7 if anyone has time then.
I'll be out of contact fo the week though, so another impediment to organising a game

2 Medals won 15 Figures lost (the total in the game is off by 1 because of accidental recovery of a unit who took too many hits.)

Almost the whole battle was on the right side of the board with the British Whippet tanks destroying everything in their path. I really thought the British tanks were going to outright destroy the Germnan's A7V with a full frontal machine gun battery. But, it survived long enough to take out one of the whippets, unfortunately. Still, overall, the Germans won the day.

Very blood game, with many (again) of my tanks bogged down! Initial return of fire was inconclusive, but then I got MG barrage and managed to use on 3 German infantry units in open, two of which did not survived it.
Todd was couple of time very close from destroying my tanks altogether (6d confirming roll with no hit :( )

In the end brave attack of British tank on trenches (imagine attack in open ground on trenches - suicide! - but not here, not with tanks!) - Tankshreken and last banner was won.

I just really hope both Todd and John will still like to play TGW - both that and previous result does not reflect what was full going on on the board...

That was strange game. Started with moving my 4 tanks in first turn, out of which 3 got bogged down... Then 6 HQ spent on recover to get nothing...
After first game with John I had my tactics for that scenario, which bogged down tanks were not able to fulfill... But I got lucky on "Storm of Fire" getting two hits on Male tank.

Very, very hard scenario for Germans - try to get any banners here before your infantry is decimated...

It was my first game with tanks. I thought it will be quick game - not too many units, no trenches (almost), flexible movement. But it took us 2h40 min to finish this exciting game!

It started very well for me - I managed to knock down MarkIV, biggest threat from British side. Then British forces retreated a bit. Road to victory open? No way. First, I have completely no cards for center (where my two tanks were). Second, John very cleverly attacked my infantry on my left (which I managed to hid in hills, but that did not helped). So it was 2-0, and after counter attack, 2-4.

But then AT7 started to show their superiority over female Whippet tanks. In head on, 1 to 1 fight, they were no match, and once my rolls started to look like similar to probability, I managed to take down second tank.

Last turns it was cat and mouse. Both sides with possibility to win, but brave charge of AT7 on enemy trenches and elimination of infantry unit finished game. Very good and intense game - and as you can see, very blood for me (twice the loses of John).

I think tanks have good potential to move TGW on next level - I really like them. More to report soon, after next games!
