Historical Background
The Takeda center vanguard was Naitou Masatoyo. He led a swift and efficient crossing of the Rengogawa River, immediately meeting resistance at Alliance's first barricade. His attack was initially thwarted by the hail of arquebus fire from the barriers, but the experienced commander quickly reorganized his formation and approached steadily. The arquebus fire eventually tapered off, and an intense melee battle broke out at the barricades. The Alliance soldiers were unable to withstand the onslaught of Takeda attacks and their grasp of the barricades weakened. The charge of Takeda's second wave of reserves followed, giving the final push over the edge to break the Alliance defense line. The Alliance soldiers were forced to abandon their position and retreat to the 2nd barricade.

Yuki's Post-Battle Notes and Trivia
• Naitou Masatoyo (1'9M111) was probably the least flashy of the top-ranking Takeda generals, though his performance had been extremely consistent throughout both Shingen and Katsuyori' s reign.
• Masatoyo' s father served the older generation of Takeda and was executed by Shingen ' s father Nobutora over a disagreement. Masatoyo had lived his life in exile ever since, until Shingen dethroned Nobutora. Shingen then profusely apologized for his father' s wrongdoing and implored Masatoyo to serve the Takeda again.
• According Kayou Gunkan, a historical Naitou Masatoyo, historical and modern renditions document of the era, Yamagata Masakage described Masatoyo as having the personality fitting for a true "lieutenant" , in the sense that he was extremely stable and was skilled at supportive roles.
• Masatoyo' s first major achievement was at the famous Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561, after which he steadily contributed to Shingen' s other military operations such as the campaign aginst west Kouzuke, battle of Mimasetouge and battle of Mikatagahara.
• Despite of his extensive participation in Shingen' s signature battles, he had never received any kanjou(M) from Shingen. A kanjou was a document detailing appreciation of military achievements given to the samurais by their leaders. Perhaps because Masatoyo always took on the thankless jobs in the background that ensured victory, his contributions often went unnoticed and unthanked. However, he was quoted for expressing that this was a trivial matter to him: "Recognition of personal achievements is nothing compared to victories in battles as a result of properly following commander' s orders"
• Masatoyo' s life became a little harder in the Katsuyori era. Negative rumors about him were spread and Katsuyori' s relationship with him deteriorated. This was also true for-many of the old Shingen-era generals such as Yamagata Masakage and Baba Nobufusa.
• Masatoyo expressed concerns about pushing forward in Nagashino alongside his colleagues. After Katsuyori insisted, however, he did not question the decision any further and focused on carrying out his mission, leading to a very successful push in the center section.
