Interrogations about some points of rule

Hi Bushi,

I have some questions about these situations :

1 - My partner had only 2 cards (he had made a lot of seppukus). He played a combat card and I played "Wild Winds" Dragon card. So he had to play the other which was a "First Strike" ! What do you think of this ?
- Discard the 1st combat card and don't play it (no action this turn).
- Discard the First Strike (no action this turn).
- Impossibility to play Wild Winds

2 - What happens when your leader inspires the unit under him and gets killed BEFORE his close combat roll (for example with First Strike, Ambush or Personal Challenge) ?
- The inspiring die still remains.
- The inspiring die is lost.

1. If Wild Winds draws the First Strike card, I think it is a valid Command card that could be played and therefore is discarded.
This is based on an FAQ in C&C Napoleonics that indicates First Strike could be played as a Command card.

2. I don't regard these cards as identical in this situation;
First Strike and Ambush are reaction cards, and played after the declaration of combat, so the inspired combat is done as part of the declaration of combat, so is paid for an applies at that time.
Personal challenge is played and resolved before the combat, so if the leader is killed in the challenge, that leader cannot be used to inspire the subsequent combat. Of course a different leader could be.

I sent a question to Richard Borg, and got these response.. noting that it didn't specifically cover the 2 COmmand card option

• Q1. What happens if the randomly selected card is First Strike?

  
  RB - Interesting occurrence, just off hand I would return the First Strike card and draw another card.

    Q2. What happens to any Dragon card played with the originally played Command card (e.g. Ashigaru attack)?

  
  RB - Return the Dragon card played to the player’s hand. Also return any Honor & Fortune tokens to the player.
