Historical Background
After a long retreat through northern Spain, the British army under Sir John Moore reached La Coruña, where it had to hold out long enough to allow its troops to be evacuated by sea. Marshal Nicolas Soult, commanding the French forces, launched an attack against the British positions, determined to destroy the enemy army before it could escape.
The fighting centered around the British forward positions and the village of Elviña. As the French pressed to break the line and advance toward La Coruña, Moore personally directed the defense. During the battle, he was struck by a projectile and mortally wounded, although his troops managed to contain the French and subsequently complete the evacuation.
In this scenario, the French do not seek victory by wearing down the British army: their sole objective is to break through the defenses and reach Sir John Moore in the rear. The British must resist, inflict casualties, and obtain enough Victory Banners before the French manage to kill their commander.
The stage is set. The battle lines are drawn and you are in command. Can you change history?
