My take on C&CN with 6mm miniatures - pictures.

Hello, I'm a new member but not new to C&C Napoleonics. I wanted to combine the lovely graphics of the box game with nicely painted 6mm figures. I'm currently re basing over 1200 figures on new smaller bases as shown here, hard going but will be well worth the effort I'm sure.

Hope you like the first pics,my plan next is to refight all of the scenarios on the new board, writing each one up for my blog and for here, then continue into the Russian expansion painting new figures for those scenarios.

Regards,
Lee.

Great miniatures
how do you distinguish the different unit types?

And for what tabletop system do you use this miniatures usual?

My dice are the hell!

Thank you Bayernkini.

Once I have finished rebasing all my troops onto the smaller bases shown I will mark up the small black area at the rear with a number representing 'block strength' and a small colour code dot to show the quality of the unit at a glance. I then use tiny circular markers ( 1, 2, 3, 4,) to represent losses. The markers are small enough to sit on the rear of the bases. Once I get this done I will post a few more pictures here to illustrate this. Basically the figures will identify the type of unit, ie line or light infantry, heavy or light cavalry etc. I have represented all of the units used in the scenarios, including Portuguese which are not yet based. I still have a good bit to do as its a slow job soaking them all off the old bases and putting them on the new ones. Jobs made a lot easier though by using the fine laser cut 2mm MDFbases from ERM. The new bases are 50mm wide by 35mm deep and fit the hex grid perfectly.

These figures have only been used for C&C N! I was playing it on a more textured board, but I really wanted to combine my figures with the game board and this is the result.

Cheers,
Lee.

I've done something similar in 15mm and it works great. (see miniatues section) Using this blend of miniatures on the board shouldn't appeal to veteran wargamers of which I class myself. However it has been a breath of fresh air and use the same thing for my ancients as well. It allows for quick set up with the colour and feel of a full on wargame.

Well done and great pics of nice figures.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Thank you runelord, I'll take a look through the other 'miniatures' threads here to see how others do it. I agree about the 'breath of fresh air' I'm finding this has really got me motivated again to fight through the scenarios. I almost gave up wargames until I was introduced to C&C N only about a year ago and I just love the game!

I'm still slowly rebasing my figures, it's a laborious job but will be worth the effort I know. Here are a few more shots of the rebased command stands and some British/Scots infantry and heavy cavalry. Been slowed down by the flu this week but I hope to fight the first Rolica scenarion on the board with the figures at the weekend. I'll get some pics of the game for here.

I am still impressed, because these are "only" 6mm miniatures

I started 2 years ago a 15mm project, but had no time, to go on with it

Do you have a link / contact for these bases?

Here is the link to the ERM bases (hope it's OK to post a link here?) shop.eastridingminiatures.co.uk/mdf-bases-16-c.asp

They are top quality, do not warp when glued and cut dead to size, I only discovered them myself last year and have used nothing else since. Tony, the proprieter is a friendly guy to deal with and can cut the 2mm MDF bases to any size you require. I think they are very cheap for the quality provided. The bases in my pics are 50mm by 35mm. I asked him last year to cut a special hex size for me 95mm face to face and they are brilliant.

I have just started trying to label my bases now as you can see below, all I need is 'block' strength and possibly the 'type' although this is pretty self evident from the figures on the bases! I'm not 100% happy with my hand painted job so I might try making some computer labels to fit on over the rear black section.

The basing is completed and I currently have:

4 Portuguese bases.
24 French bases
24 British bases

I can cover most of the official scenarios to begin with so I hope to have a game over the weekend.

Bayernkini - that set up looks great, are those Essex figures? Thats a good way to use larger figures with C&C N. Thanks for posting the pic.

Here's the first 8 bases I tried to hand label, I think I can make it neater!

Cheers,
Lee.

I think I'd still prefer to incorporate a symbol on my bases - I don't know enough about Napoleonic uniforms to tell Light from Line in this scale, and let's not think about cavalry!

Excellent photos - a truly inspiring project!

Thank you for the comments, much appreciated.

I only play Napoleonics, so uniform recognition is not a problem for me, but it would be easy to add some kind of symbol to aid this if required.

I finally finished my re basing and have played the first Rolica scenario using the figures on the board. Here are some pictures taken during the game, I'll try to post a short account of the battle here possibly too.

Hope you like the pics.

Cheers,
Lee.
