Redoubt on hill was created by bartok
Hill to hill, one hill to redoubt. Red hex vs right LN-P, Cavalry -2.
Imagine hill with redoubt and hill with redoubt. First and second hexes from left. Cavalry from the second (where Ln-P + Leader ) vs Lt-P................. -2-2?   Opps.

When battling out of a Field Works hex:
• Infantry and artillery suffer no battle dice reductions.
• A cavalry unit on a Field Works hex battling out across a hex side with a Field Works will reduce the number of battle dice it will roll by 2.

so Cavalry Hill to Hill should be -2 as well. In essence treat both hill hexes as normal Fieldwork hexes in the clear

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

Cuirassiers battle against the Infantry with 1 die. They are -2 battling out of hill fieldworks and -2 battling into hill fieldworks. If they were battling from a fortified into an unfortified hill hex they would just be -2 with no penalty for hill to hill.

Line infantry have no penalty in melee hill to hill, nor battling out of fieldworks. They are -1 battling into a fieldworks hex ( whether hill or plain). So they have 3 dice.

There is no consensus among players. Maybe ask to Mr Borg.

The rules are quite clear. Penalties for adverse terrain on the attacker’s and defender’s hex are additive. Redoubts operate in the exact same way.

The question above about infantry already in square being attacked by cavalry from a different direction across a fortified hex side is a good one. Personally I don’t see why the prohibition on square formation should exist behind a redoubt at all, since it actually makes such hexes more vulnerable to full-strength heavy or guard cavalry than clear hexes.
